How much depth does the Discuss command word require?
If the question says “Discuss one method that party A could use to reduce risk,” is it acceptable to just bullet point and say “party A could use options to hedge” or are you exepected to explain further?

Thanks, I’m very familiar with that sheet, but it doesn’t help or answer my question.

1 minute = one keyword
discuss means one positive keyword, one negative keyword
4 minutes would be two keywords and two directions ( “risk tolerance increases, total taxes are reduced”).
i doubt any ~discuss~ question would be more than 4 minutes.

what’ s the difference between discuss and critique? For example critique IPS? Shall give just negative statements?

I always judge it to the minutes assigned. If its 4 minutes then write two senteances. If its like 8 minutes write a couple (3 or 4) sentences.

Simply saying use options to hedge is probably not going far enough. It says discuss, not state.
My rule of thumb for full credit is:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the taught material (using the CFA vocabulary)
2. Bring it back to the case facts.
3. Arrive at the right conclusion.
In this example, you should probably state the relevant merits of hedging with options or of an options strategy and then explain why it’s relevant given the case facts / client information. Writing these two sentences will realistically take you less than 60 seconds and will probably get you 3 minutes worth of points.

“critique” implies something is purposefully wrong. I think it would be unlikey that you would get a point for noting the sections missing from an IPS and then another point for saying ‘the rest is fine’.
for critiquing an IPS I would just list the things which are missing/wrong - 1 item= 1 minute.

Thank you for your reply.
What should we answer for “explain with one reason”?
Shall explain concept and give a case fact as well?
