I am looking to test in Dec but not ready to invest in all the material just yet. I would like a cheap source to just look over the materail and read at my leisure. Even older material would be helpful to just gauge my initial understanding of the material.

Buy someones old books on ebay or craigslist?
But it seems like a waste of time. Just get the new material and start now. Even “leisurely”if you want, but at least you’ll have up to date material.
 
CFAI used to publish the 1st book as free download (ethics and quant).
I had a look around and couldn’t see it, but someone else might be able to find it.

+1 or ask around libraries. I’ve heard of several that carry them
 
I actually have a full set of 2014 Level 1 materials I need to get rid of. available to the highest bidder!
