It was a perfectly good Sunday afternoon in Chicago today. Close to 80 degrees after a torturous winter. Girls were wearing sports bras as they jogged along the shores of Lake Michigan, but I wouldn’t know b/c I instead chose to get kicked in the nuts for 6 hours while taking Elan’s mock exam #1.
Difficult exam. I thought the AM session was BRUTAL; I scored 58% in the AM. I thought the PM session was a good deal easier and I did a lot better for a total score of 64%, but still lots of tough questions. They really make you work for your answers, whereas the Schweser answers are a bit more apparent.
Just some background; I’m at ~320 hours of study time. I was scoring 66-70% on Schweser exams thus far and took 64% on Elan. I feel like I had to work more for my 64% with Elan today than the 70% I got last weekend on Schweser. I felt exhausted after taking it today.
Rahul Roy, did you take this exam yet? Even you may have a hard time getting 80% on this one.

Elan Mock 1: 66%
Elan Mock 2: 64%
Elan mocks were pretty challenging. I think they are even harder then the CFA Mocks. Compared to 2012 CFAI mock, the structure and wording of both are very very different. I have not taken any Schweser mocks because I know they give u a false sense of security considering how plug and chug they are.
I’ll be taking the 2013 Mock in 2 weeks (word on the street is that this is the killer mock that must be conquered to feel “ready” to take the real deal).

^There wasn’t much ‘plug and chug’ on the Elan exam today. Each question was pretty complex and there were a lot of traps. I still don’t think the Schweser mocks are easy, but this was a lot more difficult.
That Elan exam put me in a bad mood. I called my mom to wish her a happy mother’s day, and had to apologize for my tone. The AM session was so rough. Not a fun day!
I’ll put Elan #2 off for a couple more weeks. I still have some Schweser mocks but I need to do the CFAI mocks. Providence, which CFAI mocks have you completed? I may take the 2013 CFAI next Sunday. I think now is a good time to be challenging yourself with still plenty of time to prep for exam day.

Took élan 1&2, cfa 2009,2010,2011,2012, and both 2014
got 2013 left and I’m saving it for when I “peak” in my confidence for kt
so I can get to exam day feeling like
a boss

Yep, took Elan 1 this weekend as well. After 180 hours of study and little review, expected to get about 50% and sure enough… 50% on the nose. It sure pissed me off though! A good baseline for what i need to work on over the next month. Nothing more frustrating to me than knowing that I’ve learned how to work a problem in the past but that I’ve since forgotten how to do the problem!! Argghh! Overall a good experience and will help me focus this week in prep for next weekend’s mock.

After seeing your scores i am not at all motivated to take the Elan mocks now.Better to be well prepared before taking the Elan mocks.I have only knocked in 240 hours so far and thus i am sure that i am not at all well prepared to take the mock now.
I will take them say on 1st or 2nd of June .
I think as per your respones Elan mocks are harder than real CFA l2 exam.

Haha, “Girls were wearing sports bras as they jogged along the shores of Lake Michigan, but I wouldn’t know b/c I instead chose to get kicked in the nuts for 6 hours” The could be a very high opportunity cost:D
2013 CFAI Mock - Morning session is hard as well.

Question: The Elan mocks are 60 questions in the “morning” and 60 questions in the “afternoon.”
Should each set of 60 questions be done in 3 hours, or all 120 in 3 hours (like the actual exam)?

I’ve only done the AM portion of Elan’s mock #1, and I’ve done the whole CFAI March Mock. I agree…the Elan mock seems, thus far, pretty damn difficult!

Var_99, I see you quoted ProvidenceCFA - and I read where he said the exams are difficult. That still doesn’t answer my original question:

The actual exam is 120 question; 60 in AM seesion and 60 im PM session. Each session is 3 hours, so the total exam is 6 hours. You should be finishing each AM or PM portion in 3 hours or less.

Newsflash to Haji…the Level II exam has a total of 120 questions. Level II has half as many questions as Level I.

Oh, right. Sorry Var_99 and rahul roy. I’m a bit out of it from too much studying. I was thinking of L1 with its 240 questions.
