Excuse me if this is a basic question pertaining to the designation. Is there a way an employer can verify if an applicant has passed a certain level...I am interviewing an applicant who states he has passed level one of the CFA. How can I verify if another individual holds the designation? I was told this would be a good place to post this question. Thanks in advance.

I take it that I can't contact the CFA institute to verify this information? I was going to call today, but considering the holiday, I could not talk to anyone. Will the CFA institute verify if someone actually holds the designation? From your previous post I guess they will not tell me if someone passed a certain level, correct? Thanks for your insight.

CFA Institute may only verify for an employer the receipt of any recent payments they have made on your behalf. All other information is confidential. Candidates must contact CFA Institute directly for further assistance.
It looks as if I can't verify if someone passed a particular level, but what about if they have the actual designation.

I know for a fact that a CFA charterholder can look up all other charterholders that have given current employment info to the CFA website. You can even punch in a company name and see who's registered.
I've actually had people out of the blue send me their resume b/c they found me through the database. I didn't help out my CFA-brothers, though. They weren't qualified...
Anyway, if the CFAI won't help you verify a CFA charterholder's info ask someone in your office. As for candidates, all you can do is ask the potential employee for their exam ticket to show what they're sitting for or ask for their most recent score report.

Just to point something out, you do not hold the designation if you have only passed Level 1. You can only state that you have passed Level 1 of the program.

Yes, I now realize what a dumb question it was to ask the question the way I asked it. Me and a co-worker of mine were discussing if there were any other ways of verifying an individuals enrollment in the program without having them to provide their ticket, or show us on the computer that they have enrolled in the program. I know that there were ways to verify through the CFP website whether or not an indiviual has their CFP designation, but there is no way to verify this through cfainstitute as I highlighted in a statement above. My co-worker and I are interviewing a candidate for a summer internship with us and we were trying to figure out a way besides doing the above. I would hate to put the individual we are interviewing into an uncomortable state, but having him show us seems to be the only way to go. I have used this forum plenty of times before myself and thought this would be a good place to ask that question. I should have explained myself from the very beginning. I have enjoyed everyones feedback. Best of luck to those you are sitting for the exam this Saturday, and yes, my son is doing very well...thanks for asking
