agreed with asdffdsa...the top 3 are in their own class. not even really sure what would be included in "top 5" but the general perception is that schools like chicago, columbia, and the like are all in the next tier of "good" schools following H/S/W

Which is great for me, as I have no interest in Harvard/Stanford or Whatron. Only if I can't get into Chicago...

Columbia is interesting though...

if you want to end up in finance, why would you apply to columbia and chicago but not wharton? those are the three best finance schools, so you should apply to them all if you are competitive. assuming that you put the time into creating a strong application packet and have competitive stats, you are likely to get into one of the schools, but not necessarily your first choice. the process has an element of randomness no matter how good you are, and luck is definitely a factor. apply to all of the good schools... you only need one hit.

asdffdsa, sometimes people just say random things that don't necessarily mean much

obviously I would apply, but it woulnd't be my first choice I guess is what I am saying.

Hi guys: thanks for all the inputs.

Of course, if I have a chance for top 3, I wouldn't go to No. 4 or No. 5. As much as I enjoy finance, my ultimate goal is actually in strategy and corporate development. But getting into a consulting firm has been very hard for me..:( Actually, the current job I have can get me into Northwestern (My company and northwestern has established relationship). It is a great school as well, but the focus in on marketing.

I am not sure if a CFA title and a good research job will get me into top 5. Actually, I don't think that is enough. Besides a good research job, maybe something outside of work will help me, such as being very active in some other orgnization. Well, I will have to figure it out gradually.

With that said, MBA is not something necessary for me. If I can switch into strategy or corporate development and have a good position. I wouldn't give it up for school.

My ideal position would be doing corporate strategy in a mega bank. Sigh...how sweet is that~~~ :))) Hopfully I can get there when I'm 30 (eeeeewwww), even if it means I'll be doing something at a lower level....

That is my sweet dream:)

haha. Thanks Halifax.

yah. I shouldn't say it is my dream. It is just my goal in the next 10 years. I have better things to dream about. :)

freshginger,

Congratulations on your offer. Can you please tell me a bit about the technical question asked during your initial rounds.

Thanks.
