Does anyone here work as a research associate?
If you could post any/all of this information it would be greatly appreciated as I’m trying to get a sense of what people make. Thanks so much!

Why don’t you just tell us your offer and we will say whether or not it is in line.

haha. I’d take 20% off the “in-line” number if this is a reflection of your research capabilities.
Generally between $30k - $250k for base, with bonus ranging 5%-150% (lower this year obviously). Not that $30 or $250k is an actual base, but associates will almost certainly be in between these numbers.
Hope this helps…

Not sure exactly since I worked at a regional firm when I was on the sell side. First year sell-side bulge bracket associates used to be around $100K all in plus / minus (research, not banking, which is higher). That’s around what I made, cost and tax adjusted at my firm on the sell side. I think the base was about $55K in NYC in recent years and probably not too far off of that now. Obviously the bonus will be lower now, but I don’t know what it might be. I can’t speak to the buyside since I went straight to an analyst position on the and never worked as an associate, and also because it varies significantly since the buyside is a large place with different economics than the sell side. Good associates on the buyside, should, in general, be paid more than associates on the sell side, unless you work at a mutual fund or a sub-par firm.

$60k out of undergrad at RJ in Tampa, FL… little or no bonus (no, i don’t work there, but I know)

what is the difference between analyst and assoicate position ?!!

Depends on your experience as well as your education background.
Sell side research is not what it used to be. Pay is decent. If one has a fu**** up boss one’s hours are bad as well.
Until one becomes a VP (typically 3-4 years after working as a junior analyst), one will not see the big bucks, if at all it can be considered the big bucks.
Skills one learns in sell side research: priceless.

No, because you’re rude and you have a foul attitude

That is the worst thing you can say to any candidate.

Wow, take that!
Seriously man, there are a lot of web sources to find this sort of thing. You can take a look at the CFAI’s published salary database which lets you play around with some variables to make it more relevant to your situation.
