Exam questions requiring calculations

About how many questions were there on the December 08 L1 exam that required any sort of quantitative calculations?
 
I'm not sure about the exact number... it could be 16 17 or 25, but from what I can remember, there were only a few 3-4 on each exam that actually required a lot of quant know how.

So if you're asking for advice about the exam, I recommend just knowing how to do basic calculations. Don't worry too much about really complicated formulas or problems.

I concur. Don't waste time on things like the T-stat for a pooled estimate etc. or spearman rank test...what else?????
 
Wow! That's less than 10%. I've been studying Schweser and it seems like more than 50% of their practice questions require a calculation.
 
do all the question and calculations for your benefit anything is testable on the exam
 
I'd say about 10% (24) or so questions require calculations.

Knowing the quant, behind the theory, down pat helps you manipulate variables and see how things correlate. So even though there may not be that much "number crunching" it is nonetheless helpful to know how to do most of it.

Detailed formula's like Bayes or the Skewness are probably not even worth memorizing. But this is just my advice.
 
Wow, that's really good news, Math isn't my strongest subject so I'll take less math questions anyday!
 
I think that you should tread pretty carefully here, as there might not be that big a difference between a, hey I needed a calculator question and a I just knew the answer question.

A quant question could be calculate the geometric or arithmetic mean

A non quant (i.e. calc not required) for a given number series is the geometric or arithmetic mean higher?

One needs a calculator and the other doesn't, but both require the same level of knowledge and it could be argued that the non-quant question is actually harder.
 
by all means, DO THE CALCULATIONS.

I think the best answer youre looking for is: By doing the calculations repeatedly, you will understand the process one must for forgo to get the result, and be able to interpret the result.

In the test, they will usually give you the anwswer... the question they ask however, is, what does it mean?

They also ask questions that have you describe the process of such an equation.
