How they calculate your score? You must get min 70% in the morning and min 70% in the afternoon or , let's say, you get 50% in the morning and 90% in the afternoon and it's still ok?

Hey, give the guy a break.

yes, you need to get 70% in the morning AND in the afternoon.

Also, if you take a bathroom break during one of the sessions they give you a second answer sheet when you get back to make sure that your scores don't mysteriously improve when you return after a few minutes alone in the john.

You can estimate your score using the 40/60/80 method. That is when you get your score back from the CFAI months after the exam they will summarize each section adn tell you your score breakdown... I.e. you scored between 50-70% <50% or >70%. Simple assign a score of 40% to the lowest category,80% to the highest then apply that percentage to the topic weighted questions. I.e. if a topic has 24 markets and you scored in the 70%+ bracket, take 80% of that or 19.2 marks, add them up, total them and divide by 240 marks.

Basically it's been established or inferred by things that have been put into publication by the CFAI that the max mark to pass would be possibly 70%.

This 40/60/80 is basically a myth made up from people on this forum. There is no certain designated rule about 40/60/80 method.

I do agree with James' last sentence. 70% seems to be the optimal goal. The way they provide the scoress is by giving a break down of different sections and tell you what % you recieved in all: less than 50%, 50 to 70, and higher than 70%. But no one knows, what one must get in any of the sections to pass.

I agee however advice you, that looking at history for June's L1, very small (if any) number of candidates passed L1 with lower than 50% in ethics or FSA.

Is the exam both in the morning AND afternoon? whew..........I was assuming either one of the sessions...........my goodness, this is too much..........

do people get stresses out for the afternoon session?

That does not make any sense. You need to get say 70% of the questions right in total, of course there is weightings and you probably wont' pass if you fail say FSA and Ethics but get above 70% right on all otehr sections.
