I've been looking at getting a good book on modelling, etc. The one I found was by Simon Benninga, called "Principles of Finance with Excel". Any thoughts on this book?

I have that book, as well as corporate valuation methods and financial modelling 2nd edition, all very very good books. The financial modelling book is a little bit beter than the principles of finance with excel. You can buy the valuations one which has an excellent overview of npv and valuations through the free cash flow in a bundle with the modelling one as the modelling one is pretty much taking the forecasted cash flows and deriving valuations from that.

all the books i mention are by benninga.

liquid,

what exactly would you like to model?

Benninga's Financial Modelling with Excel and VBA gives a good introduction, but is in IMHO quite surfacial. I have started with it and regard it as a good beginner's guide but it has its limits... I guess "Principles of Finance with Excel" goes in the same direction.

Another basic book you could use is this one :

Modeling Structured Finance Cash Flows with Microsoft Excel: A Step-by-Step Guide (Wiley Finance)

AUTHOR : by Keith A. Allman (Author)

I have it.

Thanks for the replies guys... I appreciate it.
