Execution Trader on the Buyside vs. Sellside Research....
which job would you take? which pays more? better growth prospects?

Doh! You would be doing completely different work in each job. It all depends on what YOU would rather do.

the junior execution traders i know at long-only asset managers make less than the sell-side research assocs i know. execution trader at a HF is another story entirely though. they make tons... so depends what you mean when you say "buy-side".

not much growth in sell-side research though... upside is in the exit opps. not sure about execution trading. i'm sure at some HFs there might be the chance to go prop.

exec. trader makes a ton of money but it's kind of a boring/limited role but again a @#$%& load of money. Sellside research is a more intellectual role and you have a lot of diff options if you want to swich fields. Great exit opps. Their target audience is also very different. Research looks for candidates with strong academics. For exec, you don't necessarily have to be a smart ass. But if you want to end up in Sales or trading, you're better off as an Exec. Trader and moving up. Just my $0.02

I agree with stylemog. When I say buyside exec traders make a ton, I'm talking about hedge fund as a buy side.
