Today I have an exit interview with HR, anyone got any tips besides
- dont try to burn bridges
- dont tell how much you hate them
- dont tell there was no opportunity for advancement and it sucked all the time I was here

Just say you learned a lot and you are looking forward to amicable relations with the firm you were at and that you look forward to learning at your new position.
Leave the sh.t talking for the bar.

When I had my exit interview, I genuinely came up with like, two or three things that I really did like about my particular firm and that we were particularly good at. I talked about how proud I was that we were so well regarded insofar as A, B, and C. “However, given that I want my next step to be more of 1, 2, and 3 (qualities that your new employer is known for, maybe), I think that this is just the right move to make.”
If you really want to put it on thick, you can say something like, “Believe me, if I wanted to stay in [things your current employer is really good at/known for], I don’t think there’s a better employer to do it for.”

Keep it positive and don’t say anything you’ll regret later – it’s that simple. It’s really not to your advantage at all to say anything negative about the experience. If anything, tell them you were looking forward to exploring a different career option but you have only positive things to say about the people at the firm that you’re leaving.
I pretty much agree with supersadface as well.

I thought those exit interviews were only in movies. I guess everybody has to look busy, even HR.

When I had my exit interview at my last job I had a huge smile on my face. The HR lady said I looked way too chipper.
