This is something I've been wanting to post for a long time. I'm obviously not totally ignorant to these matters, but could still benefit alot from everyone else's help. Could we get a thread going on types of financial institutions (that includes acronyms), examples, and positions. If you can't contribute in a meaningful way, don't - let someone who can. I would rather let someone else get this started because my experience is limited to financial advisory. I'm looking for defining things like IB, BB, Buy side, Sell side, MM, etc.. and discussing the various roles within. You don't have to cover the whole industry, just what you know. This would really help me and probably many others as well. In all honesty, and I'm not sure if it's because a lot overlaps, this stuff gets confusing for me sometimes. Thanks, and sorry I have nothing to contribute.
An example of what I am looking for would be as following:
Investment Bank (aka IB, IBK?):
Definition, examples of IB's, and various postions.
