I think this was asked before, but can anyone recommend good books on Financial Modeling?

BTW, I haven't visited this site for a while and now I see that the OT section has been closed down. Wow! What happened?

Books, even Benninga, aren't all that helpful at teaching the practical aspects of modelling.

Ideally your company has a training program, or coworkers willing to sit down with you and teach you the fundamentals. Otherwise, consider taking a modelling class, or buying some specific modelling training materials (I think there was a post about this some time ago).

Oh coolcat, it was ugly, very very ugly.....good souls were lost this past weekend

I'd rather not speak of the events as they were too.....painful

Just know that OT is never to be spoken of again

I concur with Atlanta about Benninga. Decent book, but it probably won't teach you much you can directly apply. It will help you with your excel skills though.

I'd be remiss if I didn't say something about "try the search feature", but we just like cat so much I couldn't dare.

Thanks everyone for your reply. I'll check out the other site.

Has this been asked before? Come on! At least try to put a spin on the question, or make some interesting variation.

Try this:

Anyway, it's clear that this was just pretext for you to ask about OT.

Get some of your friends who work in the industry to walk you through a couple of models. They can give you some tips, but do your research first and work through some problems on your own. That way you wouldn't waste their time and would be able to focus on the useful parts that are used in the real wold but aren't covered just by fooling around in excel on your own or through benninga.

imp, I really need to do some financial modeling but you're right; it was just a pretext to ask a bigger question - which was, "Who walked off with OT?" BTW, thank you for your advice.

Austin12, were you ever in my introductory Philosophy class?

Why do I ask? When the term ended, some guy from that class said exactly the same thing, and I let him walk out of my life. I've been regretting the mistake since.
