Below is the description. They are saying 55k base + 25% bonus. Does this sound about right?
Fixed Income Trader

Firm advises corporations, foundations and endowments, pension plans, public funds, and individual investors on their overall investment strategies.
We are currently seeking an entry level Fixed Income Trader with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities Include:
Domestic Bond Trading
Market Surveillance – Monitor the market and communicate factors that impact portfolio’s buy/sell decisions. This includes understanding economic fundamentals, supply and demand dynamics, seasonal events and technical factors that drive the market.
Portfolio Construction – Analyze, propose and execute trades
Portfolio Monitoring – Track portfolio’s for proper structure, sector weightings and duration.
Understand account guidelines and monitor portfolios for compliance with guidelines.
Support settlements and pricing functions

Requirements
BS/BA degree
2 or more years of experience in either accounting or finance/banking and a track record showing increasing responsibility and the ability to work independently on highly detailed projects
CFA candidate is preferred
 
btw that position looks like a great spot to get in the business. comp is reasonable, lower than at an IB for an analyst but at this point in your career id say the experience is more important than comp. if you’re good you will be set comp wise later on

That 55k + 25% bonus seems very low to me, unless this position is strictly for executing trades and not building strategies.
 
So $70,000 all-in for an entry level position is “very low” when a) someone like akanska with good work experience and good looks makes that much and b) the average US household income is $40,000 a year??? Okkkaaayyy…I want some of what you’re smoking.
 
yeah i was asking because i wasn’t sure if this was low or normal. the headhunter who showed me this opportunity told me that any positions above 55k are waaayyy out of my league… i was thinking wtf? i mean her incentive is to get me a job quickly so she can get her commission.
i like the sound of the job functions, but would like higher pay. this 55k + bonus isn’t bad, but it’s not great.
former trader, I live in Los Angeles. This isn’t really a major finance market, but I see people all the time making dough..

i’m currently a junior fixed income trader/PM in emerging markets. Have been at my post for 5+ months and the senior trader/PM has gained a lot of respect for me and has given me the freedom to analyze and put on trades using my discretion. That 70k all-in position is very sub-par for an entry level trader position UNLESS the bulk of the job involves trade support. I wouldn’t categorize a trader position that involves building strategy entry-level by any means, that’s why I think this position (irrespective of what the description says) most likely involves trade support ie execution.

Since when is “2 years experience required” entry level? It looks a bit low but depending the location and the original posters prior work exp, it could be generous.

Didn’t the position require 2 years experience?
 
If it’s in NY, that’s low salary - anywhere else, might be reasonable.

Well, we can differ on the definition of entry level, but it’s really irrelevant to the salary discussion. That discussion should focus on the experiences of the candidate, duties of the job at hand, and the market rate for those, subject to a few other adjustments. Whether the company fells the jobs is entry level doesn’t matter - they appear to be using the term simply to mean the person hasn’t done the job in question before. In that light, I’m currently seeking an entry level CEO for a portfolio company. By farley’s definition, 40K + jelly of the month club membership should be sufficient.

CFA_gremlin, do you mind sharing with us what your comp range is? your position seems to be what im targeting
 
seems low
I’m a trading assistant and make more then that (salary and bonus)
