"Harvard" Certification

So Harvard has these various “certificate” programs that I can do for free (through work)… certificates in Management, Leadership, etc.
Are these worth a sh**, or a complete waste of time? I’m thinking waste of time, but maybe you know better.
it’s through “Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP)”
 
if you got time, go for it
you could probably meet some interesting people while at it
but I don’t think it’s worse putting on a resume
 
this executive director at my job put Harvard under his Education field on Linked In. You would think he would have actually attended school there until you read in between the lines and see that it was only one of these programs. shaaddyyyyy
 
i meet some international kid doing the harvard management certificate thing.
think it carries weight outside the US since people read Harvard. Don’t think BCG will be knocking down your door because you completed the certificate.

If it was actually on the Harvard Campus, I’d definitely jump on it. But unfortunately it’s all “distance learning,” ie, computer-based lectures, presentations, articles, and books. Like the CFA Program. Thus, I won’t be meeting anyone.
All the materials are from Harvard B-School Press though, which I guess gives it some tiny, extremely negligible amount of “prestige.” haha
Actually, it might be good to have on the very bottom of a resume, since most companies use software based screeners for electronically submitted resumes. Just having the word “Harvard” on it will probably be enough to get bumped up by the computer anyway.
 
Depends on your goal, if you want to impress people with the Harvard name. Those things arent worth a $hit. People know what they are.
But learning is always good, especially if its free.
 
It’s good to have Harvard on resume, just don’t put it in Education. Create a new part, General information, or something like that, where you put your Charities participation, sports achievements, etc. There it would look good. I saw a resume with Stanford summer programme in China in the bottom of the page, it’s fine.

Under hobbies can I mention that I read and name drop HBR?

If you did this, be prepared to get a pop quiz during interviews on what was in the latest case study and your take on it (assuming it is at all relevant to the job).
 
i cant find anything related to this in a google search….can you show me the homepage for this certification program?

Not from their endowments? From exec training programs? Right…..
 
When I use the school’s name on my resume, should it be 4 or 5 H’s?

….I do work at the New Yorker and I have a taste for brandy, so I’m going to go with 5 H’s. Thanks for clearing up the confuuuuuusion.
