Hey guys please help me make a decision !!!
I registered for level III exam for June 2016 then found out I’m pregnant again!! (I already have a 4 year old and a 6 months baby).. Also, I already sat for Level III in 2015 while pregnant and failed band 9..
I really dont know what to do should i sit for it again while pregnant again or just skip this year and take it in a couple of years ?
Last year I used schweser and my plan for this year was to use the CFAi books but I feel I’m too late and too tired to use the Institute book, does it really make a difference to study from the institute books or should i just use schweser again? Also, can i just use last year’s schweser or do i have to buy the new ones?
I’m sorry lots of questions but I’m really confused
Thanks :)

Congrats on the news! Schweser was great for all levels, although I did find it to be the weakest for Level 3. I only used Schweser and passed (just barely) on my first try, so I highly recommend using Schweser and complementing with reading topics in the CFA Institute books that you are less comfortable with and/or that are more prominent on the exams (e.g. Private/Institutional Wealth Management, maybe GIPS?, etc.).
Best to do the end-of-chapter questions throughout the entire CFA Institute books, as well. Also, in terms of practice exams, Schweser mock exams were weak sauce so make sure you do as many of the old CFAI mock exams you can find (particularly AM session).

Wow I can only imagine how hard it would be to study for a CFA exam with 2 young children AND while being pregnant. I think you should give yourself a pat on the back for even turning up for last years exam!
As hard as it will no doubt be, perhaps you are in the best position you are going to be in for the next couple of years to actually take and pass the test. Hopefully the material is still somewhat “fresh” in your mind from last year and you can approach it this year from a different angle, without having to start the study process right from the start.
Try to imagine what it will be like trying to study with THREE young children while also having forgotten most of what you learned 2/3 years ago.
Maybe just “mock till you drop” this time around and instead of taking a full run through the currciculum, just try to build on last year’s study and cut right to the stage of testing/reviewing/repeating. Really get the most out of each minute of study time.
Band 9 is ever so close - just try to make that final push and get this thing behind you so you can look forward to enjoying time with your family in june 2017!!
Whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck. And here;s me moaning about studying and I only have myself to look after!

Congratulations!
There is more to life than CFA. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself.
Whatever you decide, try and enjoy life. Enjoy reading the text. Enjoy writing exams. Enjoy the miracles that you have in your life.

I can’t even begin to imagine your struggle!! Congratulations and best of luck!! I would agree with both S666 and Arbtrgr here, but definitely lean toward S666’s advice RE: memory attrition. Godspeed.

Thank you so much for your words and encouragement .. I think I’ll take it this year and wish for the best :)
Good luck to all the candidates :)

Hey Baspy - I’m a first time Level III taker. When you say you only used Schweser (for reading, I’m assuming), did you attempt the BBs and EOCs from the CFAI cirriculum? and past exams? Or just purely Schweser?
My strategy is to quickly go over the Schweser readings by mid-March, and then crack the CFAI BBs and EOCs, and eventually the AM old exams in the 2nd half of May. Do you think that would be enough?

I did the EOCs in CFAI curriculum but didn’t have time (or, to be honest, the effort) left to do the BBs. Also did as many past CFAI exams I could find. Like I said, I found the Schweser mocks to be very poor.
Sounds pretty much like my strategy but I got pretty lucky in passing on the first try so try to do as much as you can. Also definitely do the online multiple choice questions provided on the CFA website; these are very helpful, as well –

hi Basma,
you should definitely go for it. I am single with no children but it is my dream to carry on studying even when i have kids.
