I find the CFAI material very long winded n I’m about to tear it apart…should I switch to Wiley/Elan? Is it enought to study with Wiley? I find Schewer materials oversimplified… Hellp!!!!!!

I’ve been impressed with the material from Wiley/Elan.
(Disclaimer: I am working on materials for Wiley instructors.)

But do u think it is enough to study fr Wiley n go back to CFAI for their examples n questions? I find CFAI material very confusing.

R the lectures important? Should I just purchase the notes n practice questions?

The Wiley Study Guide is a great resource.
It sumarizes the material and is reasonably priced.

Some candidates benefit greatly from the lectures; they can give them a different perspective on topics that are difficult for them, and they provide motivation to keep up with the reading.
Not all candidates, but some. You’ll have to decide whether you would benefit or not.

A lot depends on what type of learner you are. Some people learn best by reading; they don’t need the lectures. Others learn best by watching/listening; the lecture videos are great for them. Still others learn best by doing; for them, the live classes are likely the best route.

I currently have the hard copy for L2 in my hands. Well…resting on my chest. My hands are typing ;) They were released a little bit ahead of schedule.

Overall I’m very happy with it compared to Schweser. The exception is the time-series reading, which I found just brain numbing. I didn’t understand hardly any of it and (to me) it seemed poorly written compared to everything else - it also didn’t have any of the color coordination and excellent organization that I remembered from L1. But, once the econ readings start it’s more in line with what I remember in L1 - I really prefer them. Maybe the time series reading is my fault…I really struggled with it.
Long story short I definitely recommend them. Their biggest knock by far last year was their poor (i.e. pretty much non-existent) customer service. Now that they’re with Wiley they seem to have a much better system for dealing with customers, and the books are still great.

Good to hear! Excited to get started.

I think they r not selling the ebook version because they want to charge the shipping fees…

It will b extra realized income for them since they r charging a flat usd150 each!

If you put Magician with Olinto and Shajani, that’s a hell of a trio. I used Elan last year and loved it. I like videos and I thought their videos were very good (Olinto is excellent), practice questions were challenging (better prep than the concept checkers in Schweser), and the eleventh hour guide is fantastic. I still use the Eleventh Hour guide referencing stuff for work.
My only complaint about them was their mock exams were very difficult (they actually pissed me off), but I suppose they served their purpose well.
