High yield bonds

Does anyone know whether High Yield Bonds is too narrow an asset class to be in if the ultimate goal is to end up as a hedge fund analyst?

Just got an offer as a High yield Bond analyst, but unsure if its the right way to go.
 
no alternatives really (currently a CPA), just worried i wont be able to make a switch to hedge funds later if i go down this road.
 
If you are in audit or something like that than High Yield, in my opinion, is a step in the right direction (finance).

Is it with a reasonably good firm?
 
High yield is great training for a hedge fund. If you're deciding which companies are worth a bet and which aren't, that's exactly what you'd do in (several types of) hedge funds.

Distressed companies are where the returns (and losses) are.
 
But do you think there are many Distressed debt or event-driven hedge funds out there that would value that experience?

I am worried it is a narrow asset class and i may be stuck in high yield with no way out.
 
Good high yield shops are tougher to get into than many other places you may be thinking of.

Why?

Money is awesome, there's always a new underwriting and job security is real good.

Why do you want to get into hedge funds, anyway? Give them a few more years (and a couple of big leverage blowups) and there will be plenty of jobs.
 
CDS are still hot products, working in high yeild seems pretty sweet to me...
 
Hey London Chick,

Have an interview for High Yield Analyst position . Was wondering if you could tell me what questions to look at.

I am currently employed as a Financial Analyst with an imaging company and have completed 2 level of CFA and MBA.

The interview is next week, so again any help would be sincerely appreciated.
