I actually thought I asked this question but after looking through my history I have found nothing on it.

Anyways, how do internships while one is still taking classes work- Specifically during the Spring semester (Jan-may)? Do they even exist and do many finance firms offer them?
Are you given days you have to be at work ahead of time and you work your schedule around them? Or does the opposite occur?

Thanks a lot for the advice. Any info on this kind of internship and how they work are appreciated.

The only people I know who did spring internships were in accounting. During the spring semester, they worked full time and did not take any classes. It was just like a summer internship, only during the spring.

Thanks, i_suck. Not great news on my end, but at least I got an answer. My newest post can be disregarded now, lol.

Dude, it probably isn't wise to give up after getting an answer from one person (a person who's name, btw, is i_suck). actually i like that name.

But yeah, there probably aren't many structured internship programs at big banks in spring, but that doesn't mean you can't find something at a smaller place close to your school. ask some professors or something. it takes a lot of work to get into this business, so you're going to have to make some calls, knock on some doors, and generally push yourself beyond your comfort zone to make something happen. just my advice as i went through something similar.

Thanks, Nodge. My notice of defeat was slightly in jest, but definitely I am going to go to career services of my school in the fall and ask around, etc to see what I may be able to do. You are right.

And I actually take back what I said. I know one guy who did a spring internship working for an endowment, working part time (picking investment managers, and doing some industry research). It ended up turning into a full time job post graduation.
