How important is the calculator?

Anyone is ok. Choose as you like.

TI BA2+ is cheaper and faster but it is more difficult to change battery.
HP12C is a classic in the industry. It's intuitive and unique(Reverse Polish Notation).
And more expensive but you can use it for more than 20 years. Very reliable but a little
slow in calculating IRRs. But calculation speed is not a main thing, you can wait and
read next problems until HP12C returns anwser. No problem.

I like HP12c, but most candidates use TI BA2+.
In office I use HP17BII+. Great machine! (not usable in CFA test)

nothing on the level one exam was enough calculation to bog down anything.. i could have done them by hand
either will work.. personal preference

For my money.....

HP is very intuitive and great machine for exam - very easy to pick up

My vote is the TI.

The battery is impossible to change. I was paranoid before level and tried to change the battery. I ended up stripping the screws. So I bought a second TI.

For the record, the batteries are find on the old calculator three years later and do not need to be changed.

The TI BAII plus Professional is the slickest in appearance.

Users of older calcs tell me that these buttons have a nicer feel because of the click.

This batter is easy to change, but it only has a soft cover.

Do we need to memorize manual formulas to use on the calculator (HP 12C), or can can we just memorize the calculator's entry steps for a given measurment (e.g., std. dev.)?

Man you guys really need to stop worrying about the battery! Sheesh. Save your money and get the TI BA II Plus. You won't have to learn anymore backwards notation =).

Just attach a Mr. Fusion to it and you won't have battery worries.

Alternatively, change the battery a few days ahead of the exam (that way if you break the calculator you run get a new one).
