Well I figure I'll get the CSC out of the way this summer, so to the fellow Canadians out there: how easy is this thing, and how much time should I set aside to study for it?

Also, should I buy the practice questions or the hard copy of the text or is that just a waste of money?

I guess I should mention that I am accounting major, so perhaps that might make certain parts easier.

Thanks

if your a serious CFA canidate, 2 days maybe...or so I hear. I haven't actually wrote it yet...not sure I'll ever bother unless I have an employer who'll fork over the $800 or so it costs to write the damn thing

Metal,

CSC is a walk in the park.......a hard copy of the text is handy as you can read it anytime...

Dont bother with the extra practice questions as they look nothing like what the exam will (trust me on this one as I bought them and it lulls you into a false sense of security)

I rattled off both parts of the CSC within a month...at 80%+ each.....it aint that hard.

If I was you, I would enroll for L1 CFA in December and being an accounting major it will help on accounting and FSA

Good luck

I wrote it when studying for level one.
Just go through the practice questions and you'll be fine

haha, yeah I figured it was a big joke. Too bad it costs 800 bucks, but I figure it will be good to have the CSC and have passed the first CFA exam upon graduating.

Thanks again

you've been on fire of late 3...i don't even know how you got the window to do that.

Just been flat out impressed with his game of late...he's really stepped it up. Well minus the Lyin burn...that did not quite workout the way he planned.

i took the CSC....got 60 percent on both while studying 5 days....not too bad since it was just something to do during tv time...but don't underestimate it....lots of perverts fail it......but it is a walk in the park but it is also annoying and boring to read.....

Nice BIG font size in the book......nice and simple to read !!!!!!!!!

Agree with Frank that you should not underestimate it........easy though it is in comparison to the CFA exams.......

365 days in a year in Canada.....360 days in the USA........careful on calcs !!!!...

For what it is, its quite a pricey exam, however if you want to be licenced etc in Canada, its a must.

Take 2 weeks - work hard(ish) and get a decent score and move on to CFA L1 Dec 07

Seriously CSC is nothing in comparison the the CFA program. If you are taking L1 could study minimal, review seg fund/insurance and mutal fund stuff and our good ole cdn ethics and easily pass exam 1 & 2-I would think could review for 1-2 weeks before each exam--one bonus is there is no longer an assignment component either which took a fair amt of time (I believe CSI did away w/ that in early 2003). Depending may want to consider CPH as well.

I studied for two weekends. One weekend for each test, and then wrote the test on the Monday after the weekend. But since your an accounting major you might want to allow two weeks for each.

The assignment component back in the day was such a pain ... happy to hear they've since dropped it. I'd say take a month total to be safe. The last thing you want to do is fail and have to fork over an additional $175 or so to re-take it.

i would like to add that you should ignore the timeframes under which these people claim to have passed the CSC. You might feel dumb or something if you can't do it in 2 weeks as SeanC claims, but take all their words with a grain of salt.

just do whatever it takes to pass. ignore how other people have passed in terms of easiness.

if someone claims they studied only 3 days for each of the exams, chances are they 're already familiar with the material or they're flat out lying. the population of genius is like 1 in a million. its like 800 pages of material, and not even a super smart person can remember all of the stuff that fast. so just learn the material, it'll come up.

Don't forget, it is the internet Frank, everyone is smarter/wiser/tougher.

The CSC is easy, but there are quite a lot of details that a finance/accounting undergrad won't cover in their program. It's a very nice and easy read. A month would probably be sufficient imo.

a month is sufficient........but its not something that can be done solely by intelligence like physics or pure maths.....one still has to read it and learn the rules......

and yes, people are smarter on the internet......and i'm pretty tough on here.......
