Hi I think this was a topic somewhere before, but I just wanted to confirm how many questions are more solving type questions and how many are just pure conceptual defintion type?. People say to go through the blue boxes questions but I noticed they are all mostly quantitative type questions so I dont want to waste to much time on that if the majority is on more theory? any thoughts?

Yes, they are mostly quantitative, but through my experience, repitition of the process and calculations led to better overall understanding. I would say that maybe, of the 240 total question on L1 in June, I used my calculator for 50ish, at most (primarily in FRA and QM). That said, many of the questions are easily answered if you have a firm grasp of the subject. You can logically arrive at what the answer SHOULD be, what it shouldn’t be, or a range and then simply eliminate answers that don’t work.

Also don’t underestimate the value of finding the right answer by elimination of the impossible.

Also, for those who’ve written, how much scrap paper do they give you? I’m the kind of guy who’ll go through half a dozen sheets on one midterm, not sure how I’ll handle 6 hours with limited scrap…

thanks for the input, from what i read from another forum, some people only saw about 25% maybe they change it year to year?, guess you just have to know everything to be prepared haha.

If my memory serves, no extra scrap paper is given. You mainly use the space besides the questions. But that is enough. If you have downloaded the official CFAI mock, you will know how it is like.
