If a job ad states that base is 125K for a minimum of 3 years experience, where do you think the 5 or 7 year candidate should come in? Is it 10K per year, 15K per year above that, is there a good rule of thumb to use? This would be for a buyside analyst in NYC or BOS.

depends - I've met people who claim 10 years experience, but in reality they have 1 year of experience repeated 9 times.

Acutally, that seems reasonable--although maybe a little low--given that I have seen recent adds for 5yr analysts with a base of 140k-150k.

Hey man, if your salary is keeping up with inflation, consider yourself luckier than 80% of the job force.

I expect a minimum 20% increase per year in base salary, topping out in the 250K range, with no expectations for changes in bonus since that depends on our returns.
