Just wondering how people studied for ethics?

I have seen some of the pass and fail scores on here and majority did well in ethics (70%>) area.

For some reason I thought the ethics questions on the Dec. test were very hard.

I got below 50% (which I think is the area that ended up giving me the big FAIL.

Just wondering if there are any study tips by people who did well in this area.

thanks in advance

For ethics, I read the Code and Standards and the GIPS a couple of times, went over the examples several times, and did a lot of practice questions. I did the readings once a few months before the test and once again about a week before the test. Now that you've seen the test you know what kinds of questions they'll ask, so don't gloss over the minutiae.

for each exam (L1 and L2):
read the standards twice, did the probs in the back of the book
took exercices
tried to understand what CFAI really wanted to get down to

I read Ethics at least 5 times, especially a week before the exam. And of course did a lot of practice questions. There are a lot of nuances there not to be missed

As the exam is drawing near I feel it could be worthwhile bringing this subject to the front again.

I don't follow you, JoeyDVivre, I don't get your point - if you have any.

A possible answer to how to study for ethics is 'In jail?' It was an attempt at irony.

In any case I found some mnemonics I've scribbled down with regard to the Code of Ethics.

AICDR -- II -- RCIPJ -- PPC -- PIU -- MIPC

1. ACT with INTEGRITY, COMPETENCE, DILIGENCE, RESPECT (*AICDR*) and in an ethical manner with the public, clients, prospective clients, and other participants in the global market.

2. Place the INTEGRITY of the investment profession and the INTEREST (*II*) of the clients above their own personal interests.

3. Use a REASONABLE CARE and exercise INDEPENDENT PROFESSIONAL JUDGEMENT (*RCIPJ*) when conducting investment analysis, making investment decisions, taking investment actions, and engaging in professional activities.

4. PRACTICE (*PPC*) and encourage others to PRACTICE in a professional and ethical manner that will reflect CREDIT on themselves and the profession.

5. PROMOTE the INTEGRITY of and UPHOLD (*PIU*) the rules governing, capital markets.

6. MAINTAIN and IMPROVE their PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE (*MIPC*) and strive to maintain and improve the competence of other investment professionals.

Ah... you mean where some people might be obliged to study it... sorry for missing your irony :)

In jail, wouldn't they rather write books and capitalize on their story than study ethics years too late?

I think Ivan Boesky studied rabbinical texts and went on to become a rabbi. How's that for irony?

Yes, true. Many people seem to do that too. (Referring to those books...)

In any case I don't understand how I could possible memorize that list for more than five minutes:
1. AICDR
2. II
3. RCIPJ
4. PPC
5. PIU
6. MIPC

Maybe it's easier in this way.
1. I SEE, DARJEELING FOR ALL.
2. AY-AY!
3. RECIPE (FOR SUCCESS IS A)
4. PEACHY
5. PIOUS
6. PIC
