How's everyone doing?

DCB - what do you use for your revision? Secret sauce, questions, your own notes…?
Should be done with first read-through within the next couple of weeks. My approach for LIII (as for previous levels) has been to read the material as quickly as possible to get a sense of what I’m up against and to gain some peace of mind. I’ve done the Schweser concept checkers & self tests as I was going along, and plan on using the CFAI EOC questions now as a revision tool. However I have started to second guess myself lately… It seems like most people here do EOC as they go along rather than after a first read. Oh well - too late for me I guess, now I have to eat my own cooking!! EOCs until early/mid-April, and then practice, practice, practice.

sounds like a good strategy gottasay.
Everyone has their own style, which works for them. I would stick with it and trust it will be come good in the end.

Although I’m happy for those of you that have already completed their first pass or will soon (not really LOL, jealous, jealous is the word), I’m kinda in the same boat as some of the later responses - was about 40% done using vids+sch notes (no eocs), until recently where I had an unfortunate accident and was basically on bed-rest and didn’t open books at all (damn those painkillers)! Now as I slowly get back into the routine of things, it’s impossible to dedicate time to studying as I’m swamped at work and since I’m still not 100% recovered, whenever I’m not working, I just take meds to get rest/passout. REALLY miss the 9-6 work schedule from L1/L2.
Just afraid that this is not going to happen for me this year and I should just quit now and save myself the stress. But then keep thinking that it could be worse next yr and oh so close…Anyone tried just vids + ?’s for L3 and just skip the readings altogther (except maybe the IPS stuff)? Trying to figure how to make the best of studying w/ everything else going on and it doesn’t help it’s almost MARCH!

Oh that’s so unfortunate CFAfatso! Hope you recover fast!
I suggest go on studying even if you don’t think u will pass

I’d say keep going.
There’s still over 3 months to go which should allow plenty of time to finish the syllabus and to get plenty of practice questions under your belt and you’ll have a pretty good chance of passing.
the worse case scenario is that you’ll fail but you’ll be in a better position to pass next year.

sorry to hear that CFAfatso, hope youre doing better now. I think you still have plenty of time to do well in my opinion if work doesnt get overly crazy going forward.
As for your question, I passed level 1/2 with just using videos and questions for the most part with the occassional looking over notes if I dont fully understand something. I am planning on doing the same with level 3, why mess with success? I find that when reading for me i retain nothing and I just end up falling asleep most of the time so I dont do it.

Really sorry to hear as well, CFAfatso.
Don’t know the specifics of your situation, of course, but I would say your health comes first - don’t drive yourself so hard that you set your recovery back. Work comes second. CFA a distant third (maybe even fourth depending on familiy/relationships).
Whether you end up deciding to sit this one out or to give it a go this year, I would argue that you should take a couple more days/weeks to feel rested and fully recovered and to feel like you’ve got work under control (hopefully your management and colleagues are giving you the support and flexibility you need - as they should).
It definitely seems doable to pass even if you don’t get back into full study mode until mid-March. I know a bunch of people who’ve done it for a variety of reasons: crazy workload, procrastination, personal reasons, etc. If you do decide to go for it, you may still have time to skim the remaining Schweser books at least for the heavier-weight sections if you’re a fast reader; otherwise the Secret Sauce could be a decent option in conjunction with videos. I’m not big on videos myself so I am biased towards books, but I would think that between videos, summaries and a (big) bunch of practice tests you would give yourself a more than decent shot.
Feel better, and good luck!

Completed a first pass of SS7-21. I didn’t do any EoC’s; I just wanted to see what I was going to be up against, similar to Gringo, in the heavy hitters (% tested). I’ve been fairly laxed on prep. I usually wait till all-star weekend before starting to hit it hard. I tend to follow the NBA schedule. First half doesnt’ really matter, then come second half and playoffs, hit it like I mean it. I started ethics today, and will comb over all 35 sessions sequentially (I’ve tried doing them last, but the OCD in me just won’t let that happen). Hoping to be done by mid April to leave a month and change for mock exams. Here goes to 300 hours in 100 days. :-)

Started studying the first week of January and am 80 hours in. I’m about 1/3 of the way through the last CFAI book on my first pass. I try to move through the material rather briskly the first go-round, trying to gain exposure to all the material and identify problem areas quickly rather than dwelling on each LOS and doing tons of practice problems. My goal is to get through all the material by March 1 and then begin a second, targeted run-through supplemented by tons of Schweser problems. Hoping to do my first mock on one of the first weekends in April.

Wow and I thought I was on it. Finished the reading and with making my typed notes. About a third of the way doing the EOC questions and will start doing full-length exams end of March, early April. Good luck!
I got these cfa cliff notes and that made getting through the material a bit faster (and less painful). Also read the Schweser notes.
