I am a senior in college in NYC. The application and interview process for my first full time position will be starting in the next couple months.

I passed level 1 in June, and I feel that this is now the strongest point on my resume. Does anyone have advice on what is the best way to highlight and leverage this on my resume and in interviews?

Also I recently writing stock commentaries for a well known investing site. Is this something I should have on my resume? Any thoughts on how traders or people on the buy side would react to that?

100% put that on your resume. make you sure you write it up like its an actual job and not like an extracurricular activity. if i saw a candidate with that on his resume i'd definitely be impressed.

doing that and having level 1 while still in college (wasnt 100% sure that was possible) is very impressive. you're off to a fine start.

I'd have someone in the know look over your commentary before putting it on your resume. I looked at some commentaries on Seeking Alpha written by students and it was such complete crap it would have turned me off from hiring the person who wrote it where if they simply had left it off their resume I might have made the mistake of hiring them. So be careful when submitting writting samples.

Well, I believe anyone can post an article on Seeking Alpha and it's not paid work. http://seekingalpha.com/do/content/submit.php

I actually signed a contract with an investing site, and am getting paid for it. But, I'll definitely have some people look it over.

The main thing I am concerned about is how should I present passing Level 1.

I have an Education section and a Skills and Licenses section. Which would be most appropriate? I have seen people do both. Education is higher on my resume so I was leaning towards putting it there.

I would put it under education to put more stress on it. It might not grab as much attention if it's under skills section. What investing site do you write for? I would definitely put that to show the level of interest you have in finance.

Put it in a summary skills section at the top. If you are on track for your first job, it needs to be up front and center, since it indicates that you supposedly know something about finance.

You didn't really clarify that in your original post and given the quality of work I have seen from people straight from undergrad I assumed that you were not being paid for your work.

Please don't take this personally but I can not fathom why anyone would pay someone in undergrad to write investment commentary. I don't care where they went to school.

I know if I had written investment research during undergrad it would have been crap. Of course, I can say that now in hindsight because I think I now understand what quality value added research looks like.

Thanks for some helpful advice guys.

great website. Personally, I think that is more interesting than having passed CFA level I.

Thanks that's good to know. I still am much more proud of passing L1 and think that will be the strongest thing on my resume coming out of college.
