Nothing worse then knowing what you did wrong and having it come true #FML
Below average in almost everything in writing and above average on everything in multiple choice didn’t balance out in my favor. Everything I practiced I just froze up in the writing and wrote way to much spending absurd amount of time on certain problems.
Did anyone pass who didn’t write out the formula in text form? I’m so use to using symbols that I read a few last minute posts the day of and deviated from my normal plan. Big Mistake on my part.
Well see you in 2016 Level III

First attempt! At level 3 and I got band 9. I know it’s a fail but I feel pretty good about it because I left a few answers blank on the morning session so I know exactly what I did wrong.
I’m coming back with a vengence next year and instead of 400 hours i’m putting in 600. Time management worked against me in the morning session, so I will be laser focused on it this time around.
Don’t feel bad buddy, you’ll just be more prepped the next time.

I failed band 3 last year, came back and passed this year. If I can do it, I’m sure you can. All the best!

Well see you in 2016 Level III
I think I wrote down the formula in the first 2 questions or so and then on nothing - just used applied the formula. My results were not great but the one thing that I know I did was that I prayed a lot because from the exam center I felt I had failed and just used “God” as solace. Guess it paid off.

Yes, “God” passed the exam. Great job “God”.
You mean “God CFA”….assuming he’s paid his dues!

I didn’t write out any formulas and passed (good AM scores). Did explain what I did in text though.

Band 9…. never give up! luck of the draw on the questions… looks like the morning session is the problem.

Thanks for confirming, man i’m just hitting myself over the head why the *bleep did i change what I am use to doing.

Yeah you really don’t have time to switch up your game plan on exam day. I was a retake this year (band 9 last yr) and passed so don’t give up!

You’re right there, i failed with band 7 in 2013 and passed this time. My issue was also AM sesson - could not finish, and mismanaged time.
Your strategy to manage time should include, giving concise answer i.e. using bullet points, rather than writing long sentence.
Also i found, leaving 1 or 2 blank or mostly blank this time around was okay - as those questoin i didn’t know how to answer that well. So i skipped question that i thought was challenging, and went through whole book, and quickly completed the ones where i felt it was easy or resonable. Then i came to hard one, and did a bad job on 2 questions. Which is fine .. you don’t need to ace every question in AM. I got 4 bleow 50% in AM, but also got also got 5 above 70% - which was critical. Basically i scanned whole exam (vs. wasiting time on 1st try with question i possible could not get right anyhow) and completed the ones i knew.
Obviously you need to do well in PM .. i got no below 50%, 5 above 70% and and 2 in 50-70 range (including ethics).

Soubs, sorry to hear that!
As per mi calculation your result is 51.18 % or just 7.82 % less that the MPS of 59%. Being on band 6 twice proofed 1 score band is equal to 1.9%. I put your result first in the matrix and afterwards I did the reverse calculation. Both of then almost mathed.

I passed..
A few things i would consider for next time…
Firstly, sounds to me like exam pressure may have played its part.. I would find some way of relieving stress.. For me, exercise is the best answer. I went for a 1.5mile run on the morning of the exam. Had to get up super early, but was worth it as I was calm and focussed in the exam as a result.
Try to predict the exam… this helped me a lot too in staying calm and not writing too much.. if you look at exams over the past few years, certain patterns will always remain. e.g Risk Management and Derivatives get asked in alternate years, performance evaluation is there every other year, new topics always come up… after that you can put extra focus into topics that are likely to come up…
Memorise certain phrases for questions that get asked quite often - important as you can get straight into them, without wasting time thinking about how to phrase your answer…
With regards to formulas…. I thought about this a lot before the exam… And decided not to write out formulas as it wastes a lot of time for something you are unlikely to get any credit. If you get all the numbers correct and the final answer is correct, you should get full marks for it anyway so its pointless. And the person marking it will understand what you are doing if its correct.
Anyway good luck..!
