hi guys
i want to ask this question to those ppl who cleared their level 1 . i have been studying cfa material for the past 4 mths and till now i have completed all the ten books and revisied twice ( except quantative, economics). and i have solved all stalla passmaster questions twice except (fixed income ,dev and alternate). even after doing so much i m not getting confidence. last week i tried solving 2010 mock exam and ma afternoon section was very bad. and i m worried abt if they give something like tht then definatley i will fail. is this normal or should i be really abt this ???

thanks for reply..

Focus on the areas which you find weak and review your afternoon session each and every question. Try to figure out whether you lack in understanding of the material or understanding of the questions. CFA Exam is not about knowledge but also about skills. Usually we focus on the knowledge part but forget about the skills. Level I is simply the testing of your ability to recall things and apply them with some trickiness involved in the question. First of all figure whether you are tricked by the question or you are lacking in recalling the material. After that devise your strategy and revise the areas which you find weak and appear in maximum practice questions.

Remember that 3 choices means you can normally rule 1 out right away. I find approaching the questions this way really helps me.
I agree that certain areas require more attention. Also look at the weightings. Accouting is 20% Ethics is huge. Make sure yo know them

@belaal- u have a point but i dont find any difficultly in recalling things.. because in the passmaster questions i was able to score 70 to 80 range on each section. tht mock exam was way too tricky and believe me u cant solve tht question in 90 sec and i found some question weird as well but the i dont have any probs with 2011 mock exam. its just tht after solving 3516 questions i dont have any confidence…
thanks for ur advice

My experience is similar to dazz… at Level I, the Stalla questions are often more difficult to solve in 90 seconds than the actual exam questions… not conceptually, but because they have more intermediate calculations and more places to mess up. (Note that at level 2, I thought the Stalla practice exams were a bit too easy, so be careful).
Also, you sometimes need to make sure to give your brain some time to absorb the material. You’ll learn almost as much from seeing the things you did wrong than from the initial revising. But you need to give your brain some time to absorb it. Fortunately, you still have time.
And remember, no one in the history of the exam has ever gotten a perfect score. The exam is like a driver’s license exam… no one really cares if you got a perfect score, or just barely squeaked by. They just care if you passed or not.
So good luck, and keep training!

I would say better gauge yourself with EOC Chapter Questions and the CFAI Mock. If you are able to pull that off there is a good chance you’ll pass the exam. Let me add here something try going through the CFAI EOC Summaries they are really helpful and there is a good chance that exact wordings from the summaries might be tested.

keep pluggin away bro, i remember those days. this last month you gotta work twice as hard and build that confidence. You prob have the basics down you just need to fill in the details now. U have 3 and half weeks to go. You have put in 4 months of ur life already dont throw it away by slacking off here and worried you wont pass. This just means you gotta word ur tail off till the exam and get it done. Everyone feels that way, promise you that. there is so much information.. your going to see questions on the exam that you have never seen in ur life, but thats okay. Your just trying to beat the candidates beside you, if you put the work in you will be fine.

i think johnny has really given me the confidence I was lacking before reading this….
Does anyone know what the average score you actually need to pass it. I am trying to get around 75% on my sections. I am finding the practice exams to be much harder than expected but I am plugging away as much as possible.

Well said Johnny. That was somewhere between a superbowl pregame speech and a firm smack in the a**. Love it.

thnks guy for supporting me… i really appreciate tht!!!! and johnny ur speech is good and i m motivated now but i still have tht fear but i m giving much thought abt it
best of luck to all those candidates who r appearing for tht exam i hope tht we all will pass
thanks
