So I keep a meticulous spreadsheet of all my income and expenses and make projections at the beginning of every month for what I expect to spend for that month. I just ran my June numbers and found out that my actual expenses came within $1.25 of projected expenses. When you consider the fact that my expenses totaled a little over $15,000 covering 115 line items, that is pretty d@mn accurate to the tune of 0.008% error.

That's a lot of big Macs. Cut the spending, bigshot. You are acting like Obama.

You're just not letting this Fidelity thing go are you? Good for you, it sounded like bs to me too.

$15K in monthly expenses?? You sure you're not John Thain himself?

That is absolutely classic!

Does that include the legal fees for your architect take-down attempt?

Nope. That's getting factored into July expenses.

Actually the purpose of this thread was more to brag about my prognosticating abilities, but why not throw in a Fidelity joke or two if the opportunity is there. It's like you're going to rob a bank but on your way there you find $100 on the sidewalk, why not pick it up?

If you need a 115 line-items to track your budget, there's no way in hell I would want you managing my money professionally...shi*

JTLD,

Don't you work at a fund of funds? I thought you would have a better grasp on what a Fidelity analyst makes.

Wouldnt you think that your prediction should be accurate since you control the outcome to a large extent?

Its like saying: I predict I will eat a big mac for lunch tomorrow. Sure, you might not be able to find a McDs, but odds are you will eat a big mac if that is what you intend to do.

Not really. Ex. I went out to dinner with my gf for our anniversary, how do you anticipate to the nearest $1.25 what that bill's going to come out to a month in advance. Now try and figure it out for multiple items that you don't know the cost of in advance (electric bill, taxis, afterwork socials, misc supplies, etc.).

Who rack up $15,000 in expenses and keeps a spending diary? The rich don't need to do that, or at least they hire others to do this. I can't make sense what you are doing here...

That's great that you feel the need to let us know how rich and powerful you are, sorry we all can't have our own personal accounting butlers balance our budgets like you can.

True, although it definitely depends on your spending habits. Ex: I am currently in a saving mode due to some large purchases coming up, so I keep everything on a budget. I typically know within about $10 what I am likely to spend on a weekend and my weekday routine is pretty fixed. Now, if I decide to say f it and go to Paris for a long weekend instead of just going out to my standard Indian place for $40 obviously all bets are off. Due to planning, my current spending needs are (for once) pretty predictable.
