What is a 1st year vp's total comp likely to be at a BB? How about a 1st year research analyst (vp)'s likely to be at a BB? thanks

A first year research analyst is also a VP at a BB? I think I'm missing something...

Are you asking what would the compensation be for a senior analyst with his/her own coverage during their first year at a BB?

Danny, an Analysts on coverage could be VP, SVP, ED, and MD.

I made some assumptions here so i apoligize for the confusion. I meant.

1) What is the compensation range for a 1st year analyst (with his/her own coverage) in equity research (im assuming that a first year as an analyst is titled vp) at a Bulge bracket firm in new york.

2)What is the corresponding corresponding range for a 1st year vice president in investment banking for a bulge bracket in new york.

thanks

I understand that. The question was just worded strangely.

YoMama14, does the analyst have a chance at being II ranked? From what I understand, this is the most deciding factor in BB analyst's compensation.

How large is the comp difference btwn an II ranked analyst and a regular joe BB analyst?

I know a regular joe with bulge bracket bank makes about 500,000 USD a year and heard from rumor that an II ranked chief economist from the same firm pockets about 2 mil USD including bonuses per year.

II means a lot less today than it did back in the heyday. Most analysts on the Street these days are comped based on other factors as well, including on client votes, estimated trading commissions, and prop desk revenues. I also believe many firms care more about client polls and Greenwich rankings than II (Lehman is one obvious exception to this), although those lucite toys still make for good collectibles.
