Investment managers in SF/Bay Area?

Does anyone know where I can find a list of hedge funds/mutual fund companies/general asset managers/big banks in the SF/Bay Area? So these would be firms like Barclays Global Investors (bank), Standard Pacific Capital (HF), and Franklin Templeton (MF).

Ideally I'd like to be on a research team for a fund, which would consist of things like screening companies, analyzing fin stmts, interviewing mgmt/suppliers/customers, modeling projected cash flows, looking at general industries, and writing stock pitches. Basically working on a team that feeds ideas and info to a portfolio manager.

Also, if you have any info about the general investment management scene in the SF/Bay Area, that would be much appreciated as well. How does it compare to LA/NY/Bos?

Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, but it seems surprising difficult to find this information.

Try looking in the LA business journal archives, if they are available. They often list area companies in industries they are profiling. I think many cities have similar publications.

Dodge & Cox in SF is worth looking at...

Go the CFA website and read the salary survey for compensation data.

It's pretty simple.

New York is the hub especially for Equity.

You get paid the most in NY then SF/Chicago, then LA/Minnesota/Houston

Lots of jobs are located in places where the Federal Reserve Banks are located, see above for a few of them.

Hedge Funds are located mostly in Stamford CT.

The west coast is strong on the fixed income markets particularly ABS and Structured products.

You should be able to dig up this stuff on your own, especially if think your going to be a research analyst. Good Luck.
