You have to check this out when you get a chance:
http://simulator.investopedia.com/
Maybe sign up and just try it for one day and see how you do. It's free and you can trade on margin. You can trade stocks, options and even short stocks. The average contest starts you off with $100k or $1,000,000. There are different ways you can do it. You can create a variety of accounts and setup mock portfolios just to see how you do throughout the year or just daytrade.
If you have certain financial models or systems, you can test the various systems out this way and make changes. It's a really interesting website.
Also you can see other people's trades and trade history. There are some things that are important, just to let you know up front. After you enter an order, you have to wait 20 minutes before the order executes (stays pending). And there is a diversification rule of around 10%. So if you buy 100 contracts, you may get an error saying you can only buy 95 because of diversification limits. The way around that is to enter 95 contracts at a time. The same goes with long and short stock positions.
This is the main competition that everyone is in when they setup the account.
