Dear All,

Just wonder: is Schweser or CFA curriculum materials by CFA Institute better for preparing for CFA level I exam? There are so many different study materials offered by different people. I am really confused that which one is the best. Many people used Schweser notes. BUt in the CFA institure website, CFA institute recommends CFA Curriculum Materials. Any insights on this? Many thanks!

I notice that on Schweser's website, they recommend their materials.

My recommendation is to borrow someones notes from last year and then buy the other one.

I'm buying the official curriculum from the CFAI and buying some old schwesser notes off ebay.

you dont need the texts unless you have no background or experiance in simple finance/accounting

I used Schweser exclusively to take Level I and Level II and I didn't have any problems. I tried to use the CFAI stuff but I found that it was just taking me too long to get through the CFAI material.

Some people claim that Schweser is a shortcut for lazy people, but thats not true. Many of us do no have time for CFAI, which is extremely long. Personally, its not about time, but i tend to lose concentration with too much detail and emphasis.

As someone mentioned, if you don't have much of a finance background, or none at all, maybe CFAI material is better.

I have the CFAI material,
and i think they could have done am uch better job of it. basically most of the material is presented in very excruciating detail and [ in my humble opinion] unnecessary sophistry and verbiage. bascially what could have been said in one line is said in 10. but all sections are not like that.

next time i would buy a multimodal system[ books, video / in person lectures]

if the books end up being such drags as the CFAI then atleast a video would require less effort on my part to pay attention to.
generally i prefer reading books, but these books are not written to sustain my interest.

i dont know about the schweser notes. and i could not form a useful opinion based on the sample chapters.

cheers

you might want to check out @#$%&.com
i saw some of the sample quetions there and they looked better or of the same quality as those on PASSPRO site.
My latest strategy is to try and answer questions, and hit the book when i need specific knowledge only.
cheers
