Some time ago asked someone to be a sponsor. Now for no reason he decided he wants out. Some blabla about not having worked with me. And that I should find CFA charterholder I have worked with (none available!).Seriously disappointed and damn angry. Had everything set up and now this. This is not the way. Speaking about collegiality. Sorry. Just needed tto let it out. Funnily he himself got his experience approved with some random charterholder he met once. But that was before stale career promted by the charter. How soon people forget!!!

That guy sucks. Forget him.
Call your local CFA Society and explain your situation. Ask them if they have any advice for someone who needs a sponsor, but that you don’t work with anyone who could do this. 9 times out of 10, they will refer you to someone in a leadership role in that society, like someone on the board, who will be happy to put themselves down as your sponsor. I met a gentleman in this manner who helped me out when I needed a sponsor and was more or less in your situation. Never met him prior to that but he hooked me up and it worked out great.

that’s pretty rubbish. Fair enough say no but do it at the start rather than stringing someone along.
Can you not get other non charterholder that work with you to be a sponsor. I think you need 3 if none are charterholders though.

yea that’s a dbag move for him. just have to move on

Yes. I can. All 3 agreed. But one of the 3 - how shall I put it? - while willing, warned me that he is terribly stressed at work (he is already a replacement for someone I chose to avoid due to his very special sense of timing))) so I am naturally quite nervous about possible deadlines.
I think going with the sponsor while giving all the contact details of 3 references (for additional questions) would save me a great deal of nerves!
But I would also not wish to wait for this sponsortrain for like weeks. If nothing comes up soon, I will try the option I have.
Destroyer of Worlds, thanks for the tip!

For jeopardising the marketing concept of CFA charterholder old-boys club))).
He ruins the myth I want to believe in!
So do you think I should mention him at the Charter-award ceremony (LOL)?)))

I do not know by when. I do not know which instructions CFAI sends out. I presume they come with deadlines. Or not?

You haven’t gone far enough.
It should be revoked.
Then reinstated (with the attendant cost).
Then revoked again.

The sponsor form requires you to attest to stuff that one really doesn’t have any clue about if you haven’t worked with someone. He likely did not feel comfortable signing a form promisig that he knows this stuff.
I’ve always found that a strange thing to have on the form, given that that basically forces many Charterholders to lie when sponsoring people. I was lucky enough to have people who did know me through work but I always wondered how it would work otherwise.

I turned down attesting for one guy as I honestly didn’t think his experience was appropriate (auditor). He was pissed.
I think saying no is fine though. Saying yes then changing your mind is pretty rude.

Bchad, I agree with you. But in Germany, we have letters of reference which list the tasks one has performed on a role. These are obligatory to send with every job application. So the sponsor can simply take these reference letters as a proof. Plus, if I am linked to all of my ex-colleagues via career network sites, and they are all willing to attest to the kind of experience and some to the exact experience, I have obviously worked with them))).
What I think is that the current rules will eventually whipe out any CFA sponsorship except for the immediate colleagues. It is good and bad simultaneously. The system will become more transparent but some collegiality will be lost.
It is - hate to say that stupid phrase - a bit unfair!))) ALbeit, fare is what you pay to ride the bus))).

As for myself, I will go with the supervisors on all the roles. Just because I hate to waste my own time.

And my experience is pretty generic qualifying one, so there are no dual interpretations.
