Amazing story? Someone's trying to get in grunt's cyber pants

It was a semi-interesting, decent story.....hardly amazing (no offense intended grunt)

Yes, I really didn't have any good mentors. My parents were not really go-getting business types (and they thought loyalty was important), and most of my friends from college seemed to be in non-profits, engineering or academia. Fortunately, I am in a buy-side research position that I'm really happy with, and the firm is excellent.

As for my old boss, he was a vegan because he didn't believe in killing animals. However, he had an extensive gun collection as well as kevlar vests, survival stuff, etc. He'd leave print-outs of stuff he was buying on the group printer. He'd also leave print-outs of articles decreeing the apocalypse on my and my co-workers' desks. It was a, um, colorful experience working for him.

And I think grunt has already made clear in other threads she demands to be respected for her mind. Which I do.
 
Well, maybe if it ended with "and then I noticed my boss's secretary had enormous assets on her balance sheet and started to get curious, so I took her into my boss's office and made sure everything balanced out"

That might be an amazing story

the reason they rose is because they built VALUE. not putting in face time.
 
bmwhype... First off, the name - you're an obvious moron. And your posting about income vs. wealth is quite revealing.

But onto your post.... How would my old company have known that these pencil-pushers from other companies created value when they hired these folks? A snazzy interview? And no, they did not create much value when they commenced work at my former company. Sure, there are people out there who go for face time - I'm not one of them. And I have not had any trouble pulling down 13 - 15% annual raises at my new company, so I don't really think I'm a lump here. My point was that there are employers and managers out there who do not do a good job at recognizing talent from within and then cry boo-hoo (like my old company did when I left) when they fail to retain people.

Ska, just get it over with and ask her out....she'll either think it's creepy and report you to Chad, or think it's cute and it can become one of those online romances that blossomed over AF

just curious, do you ever have certain mail auto-forwarded from your personal address to work or do you always keep things separate? myself, i'm thinking about auto-forwarding some non-essential or non-personal items just because i'm hardly ever at home and i usually don't have time to sift through all my e-mails in my personal inbox on weekdays.
 
I know a friend of mine who has switched 3 jobs in a year and a half for various reasons and is looking for a position that he really wants to stay at now - and is not getting anything. Recruiters have basically don't him that he is considered a flight risk and that it really is a black hole in his application.
