Job Searching Opinion

Hi all, I just joined this forum and read several of the posts on it and was wondering if someone could give me their inputs on my job situation (yeah sorry its another one of these posts...)
Background:
I just graduated from a nontarget school with a BS in Finance in June and have been looking for a job in VC/IB/IM for about 4 months now. My GPA is good, not great ~3.5 and i graduated in three years from a four year school.

Work Exp:
I am currently working at a Semiconductor company as a full time Finance/Accounting Temp (the contract ends in Feb.) and have worked in the semiconductor field and legal field before as an Intern.

I was hoping to be able to find a job in either VC, IB or Investment management. What should my target companies(if any) be in these industries? And would you recommend taking the Level I CFA exam while im working full time and looking for jobs? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all!

What makes you different than the other 21341234 applicants with similar credentials?

Differentiate yourself from the pack if you hope to enter a competitive field.
 
Anything specifically you're looking to do? The three you mentioned could require vastly different skillsets. If you're not sure, you can start with looking at the major financial institutions (GS, ML, MS, JPM, etc).
 
Being a recent college grad, i find it kind of hard to "differentiate" myself from the pack since i have limited work experence; so what can i do to make myself stand out from the pack? Any examples of what anyone else has done would also be great! Thanks!

You're right...it'll be practically impossible especially because your GPA is average and I assume you didn't go to a target school. You have to try to network your way in. Search the archives as there are many ways to do this...have to build connections. Heck, even if you went to a target school, I'd still say networking would be your best way in.
 
BJ's usually help when you're first starting out

and by BJ's I mean Back office Jobs, I don't like the BOM terminology...too degrading
