Hey Joey, I'm hoping you can help me, yet again. No not SWAPS, but books. I'm looking to brush up on some readings on Quant & Qual analysis on HFs and HFOFs. I searched Amazon and it seems that these two might be of some interest:

Funds of Hedge Funds: Performance, Assessment, Diversification, and Statistical Properties (Quantitative Finance) (Hardcover)
by Greg N. Gregoriou (Author)

Hedge Funds: Quantitative Insights (The Wiley Finance Series) (Hardcover)
by Franois-Serge Lhabitant (Author)

Have you read these or have you any thoughts or opinions on these or other books that you find useful, and not too far in depth on the derivation of the formulas :). Thanks Joey.

Do you have any recommendations? I know you're an encyclopedia :)

No, everytime I buy some book entitled '[blah] hedge fund [blah]' it turns out to be some compendium of silly articles from people who have tried to collect data on hedge funds from the outside. I stopped buying them awhile ago.

I love the word "compendium" Joey. It's right up there with...

Rubric
Comport
Pedagogical
Anachronism

for me

Willy

A more holistic and broad book is: Ineichen, A. M., 2003 Absolute Returns: the risk and opportunities of Hedge Fund Investing ISBN 0-471-25120-8 Wiley
Has anyone else perused it?
I think Fung, W., and A. Hsieh do a lot research in this space.

Thanks Joey, it is hard to find "new" or interesting material to read, it seems like everyone has the "golden ticket" to hedge fund analysis when in reality each one is going to be unique and different. I'm just looking to brush up on some things I might be missing :)

Here's an article you may wish to have a look at:

NYTimes: A Career in Hedge Funds and the Price of Overcrowding
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/05/business/05scene.html

Not necessarily about quant, but a good read for any people who aren't currently in the industry and who have a penchant for wanting to work at a hedge fund.

I currently am in the HF industry, just looking for some material to read up on, I want to know as much as I can :), but thanks anyways Numi

Joey,

I'm confused to your CFA status. I thought I read in one post that you have your charter on the wall and another post that you said you're sure you passed LII.

Just curious

Having a charter on the wall absolutely assures me that I passed Level II.

Wtf Joey? Why give people the impression to LIIer's that you are sharing the hardship and anxiety of the exam.

As a regular reader of your posts, I always found you insightful and a real asset to the forum. I still do think this but finding this out tarnished this image of you alittle.

When did he ever give the impression??? He knows what we have gone through b/c he has been there, so what is the problem? Boy, Joey you sure do have a tough audience.

Give me a break man. Somebody on the LII forum writes that their worrying if they passed or not and Joey writes that he knows he's passed for sure, meanwhile he's got a f^$@%&'in charter hangin on the wall. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something, but that's just not cool. Somebody as smart as Joey should be wise enough to think about what he's posting. Just what is he trying to pull by making comments like that? Just don't think it's necessary and he should be wise enough to know it. I know I'm sounding harsh but this is not an easy program so nobody needs to be undermined!

why are you guys so offended by what he did? who cares. there are lots of people who knows they passed for sure, just assume Joey is one of them. You already said he was smart right?

Geez man, it was a quip. I've been here forever as a charterholder. Sorry you didn't know it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

It's just a joke, and it's only a @#$%& exam. Relax.

Ok, let's forget about it. Obviously, I pay attention very closely to what you say Joey. Thats how I was able to pick up and remember what you said on two different threads. Consider it a sign of respect on how well regarded you are!
