I too have only purchased the notes (Schweser). However I am also conisdering the CD's and the PassPro online question bank.

i hv finished ethics,...now at quant...just got my calculator too.... 1st attempt at level 1 and hope will finish all readings by march 08. i am wrking from home right now (which is 1 of the reasons why i registered for the june 08 exams) and can adjust my wrk schedule to accomodate some readings during 'boring' work hours. i manage 10 hrs on wknds though...hope will be enough...

anyone from singapore taking level 1 who would want study group for review by end march 08?

Good luck everyone...

I'm planning on studying for 400hrs. I was an economics major in undergrad and I'm also planning on using the CFAI material. Do you purchase the additional material, from Schweser or Stalla, because of the additional practice questions?

I finished reading FSA, Economic, Ethics, Quant, and i'm half way through fixed income. I probably have to go back and re-read everything since i don't remember much. My game plan is to do as many questions possible (probably until my hands fall off). Anyone have any suggestions to help retain the information.

anyone in toronto want to create a study group?

Yes, but not only because of the additional questions. Schweser and Stalla provide a summary of the CFAI material that focus on the key points.

It's go time! I've got about a week and a half more of ethics and then it's on to FSA. Anybody in CT (Greenwich/Stamford area) want to start a study group?

I'm starting reading 32 (ss 8) tonight but I have taken it pretty slow up until this point. I started at the end of September and I have been plugging straight through, though not exactly straining myself. The urgency for me has kind of set in though for some reason. My profession is in equities and I have some underground background in accounting and stats but I wasn't even a major. I swear I'm out of town every weekend for one reason or another so I am starting to fret a little.

I know one of my problems has been the notes I feel compelled to jot down as I read. Nothing comprehensive just items in the margins. I saw recently that hiredguns1 said that was a hang up of his so I'm going to try to stop that. My initial plan was to finish the CFAI books then hit Schweser hard but I'm wondering now if I don't need to jump right into Schweser, or at least skip the FSA CFAI text in favor of Schweser only....perhaps I'm just overreacting.

I got my curriculum plus Schweser Study Note yesterday. I started reading Ethnics yesterday too and I am spending 5 days on this.

Gah! I still need to buy the Schweser notes, might take me a week or so as the holidays hurt my wallet pretty bad!

I am currently finishing the first book of the CFA curriculum.. so far not I havent really seen much I didnt see as an undergraduate. I am kinda hoping this changes as I move to book 2 tonight...

Just got my video lecture cd's and passmaster software from stalla the other day. I've already read a lot of the ethics back in september (haven't done a damn thing since), so I'll be going back over that stuff and fiddling around with the software for a bit before I really hanker down and get dirty with the material.

Lectures start on Jan 21st and i believe I'll be getting my online access/password right around then, so until then I'm probably just going to take it easy and just skim over ethics.

My personal experience with the Stalla Lectures -- which I had taken for June exam was the following:

1. The trainers seem to go only slide-to-slide. Though there is a lot of the material from an exam view point that they do cover adequately -- there are some sections which they skip over because it is not on the slides.

2. Given the sheer bulk of the material esp. in Economics, much of that gets glossed over, or not read up until a few days before the exam, and then the sheer weight of time pressure and amount of material takes over, causing an unhealthy panic like situation.

3. Also just depending on the slide material, may not be enough, because the material does build on earlier material.

Basically -- if you learnt the material earlier, or had some understanding before you went into the class, you learnt much more, and then in the week following -- you spend the first couple of days on the last week's stuff, and the remaining on the next week's stuff.

Hi can you share the schweser L1 notes for June 2008 with me? It would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi all,

I started back in October (has it been that long already?!) and read through and took notes on the entire 6 volumes. Now I'm going through again, reviewing my own notes + certain passages, as well as doing all problems and working on speed. I'm currently working through problems in reading 37 (depreciation).

So far, I've found the readings/problems not-so-bad until I hit the hardcore accounting sections - which for me gets difficult starting on reading 34 (understanding the cash flow statement). Here, it's like I slowed down to 1/5th of my usual speed. In general, I think the financial statement analysis volume is the toughest to get through by far...probably since I have no background or experience - it seems you need to just do things at least once in this section to understand it fully (in contrast to the more theoretical ideas in other topics).

Anyways, I wish everyone continued motivation!

Hey kev.
How long did it take you to study All 6 volumes in how many weeks/months?

And what kind of notes did you make.. If you can guide.. Like notes of Formulas ? Or Notes of New Words and there meaning ??
Highlighting things in the Book or what??

Hi Owaissiv,

It took me 175 hours over 35 days to read and take notes. I'm sure people with a better background could do it quicker...I'm a 4th year physics graduate student with zero experience in any of this stuff.

For notes, I used a combination of notepad on windows (no highlighting since I want to keep the books for reference) and writing down formulas + sketched graphs (mostly from the economics sections) on blank pieces of paper. For the new words, I skimmed the glossary when I was too tired to continue the normal readings/studying/note-taking.

If and when I pass Level I, I think I'm going to get the Schweser notes to save me time.

BUMP....

WOW..what a blast from the past. FYI this is the first thread I ever posted in on this website. A direct line to myself when I first started. If I could go back I would tell myself to have taken more time my first attempt on Level 2. Either way, I just got the e-mail today from CFAI saying that I can officially post the letters after my name. Thought I would come back and lookup the first post I ever put on this website. This site has served me well and I think this closes the circle. Good luck to all of you on your CFAI journey!
