Hi guys,
I’m starting off my preparation for June 2012’s exam using 2011’s Schweser Notes. At my current pace, I’ll be able to finish the books by May. I’m also buying the 2012 Schweser practice questions off a site online.
I wonder if this combo of 2011 and 2012 materials will be enough to pass the exam?
Reason I’m hesitating in buying the 2012 Schweser notes is because I don’t see any big difference in the ‘11 and ‘12 syllabi.
Any advice?
Cheers

Go on. This combo* would work. For Level I Schweser is excellent. Make sure you do Practice questions of CFAI Books as they are exam proxy ones and would give you a better idea.

Hi Mohammad, thank you for your reply and your advice! I’m so relief that I’m on the right track. Apart from the practice questions from the CFAI text books and the 2012 Schweser practice questions, I wonder if you can suggest me other practice questions that might be helpful in my preparation.
Thank you for your time.

Are you serious? The whole Econ section has changed for 2012 so I don’t see how you can study it using last year’s notes. There are also material changes in IFRS and U.S. GAAP.
If the exam matters to you, get a new set of notes or stick to the curriculum. Using old notes can’t be the way to go.

@ Ghooga. Once you are done with text Qbank, CFAI EOC and Schweser Mock & CFAI Mock is enough. Like Bartender pointed out if there are significant changes in the curriculum then go for New Schweser. One thing more when you’d be doing Ethics make sure you read the first two readings of it from CFAI Text. Ethics is a major part and can be tricky. Proper understanding of it through CFAI Text, atleast of first two readings, is necessary.

Mohammad, Bartender, I want to thank the both of you for your inputs.
To be on the safe side, I have purchased the 2012 e version of both the Allen Resources and Schweser notes Qbank.
Now I’m deciding between the two in order to focus my study on. I wonder if anyone has anything to comment on Allen Resources? I find Allen’s notes easier to understand..
Thanks!

It’s a shame that most new candidates get into the “more is better” trap. As an experienced CFA exam taker it’s totally opposite “less is more” situation. Actually the CFA spells out exactly what you need to do to study for the exam, I believe most candidates don’t read the “How to Use the CFA Program Curriculum” at the beginning of every CFAI text or don’t read it multiple times to absorb its contents. At this point, the only logical 3rd party study material is the Schweser Practice exams. You need to take all 6 exams, the feedback that you get is cumulative. On Schweser’s part, it’s excellent way of accessing your weak areas. Qbank has over 4000 questions, who has time to go through all of the CFAI text examples, End of Chapter Problems and Qbank!!!
