Just got to Windsor

The amount of money people waste on third party providers, special videos, weekend CFAI getaways, etc is astounding. CFAI gives you everyhing you need to pass. There’s absolutely nothing on the test that’s not in the 6 curriculum volumes. Just read the books and save your money.
Creighton bootcamp? Windsor boarding school for CFAI candidates? Are you guys serious?

I imagine that at least some spend money on videos, classes, and so on for the same reason that they don’t learn calculus simply by opening a calculus book and reading it. Just as with CFA Institute, everything you need to learn calculus is in the book. Just read it and you’ll be able to pass the final exam.

You’re right, but time is money. If you can spend $800 on material to save you 100 hours of study time so you can have more of a life, engage yourself more at work, network, etc. it’s worth it. 100 hours is a lot of time. If you’ve got a job that requires 50-60 hours a week, many people just don’t have the time to go through the CFAI text, especially for Level I. Some people may use their employer’s money to pay for the exam, too. If my job didn’t pay for it (they didn’t for Level I), I’d still probably fork over the money if I can save time and/or materially decrease the probability of retaking the exam next year. Topper, you may be able to go three-for-three and pass all levels w/ flying colors using just CFAI text and studying for 300 hours but a lot can’t, or aren’t willing to take the risk. I think the cost of taking this exam for an extra year or two is quite large.
I think the opportunity cost of the CFA program outweighs the financial cost, by a lot.

Honestly… the money spent is 100% company money. I’m competing against people much smart and hardworking than I am. I need every advantage i can get.

i can see how bootcamp can help for L3…id pay good money for someone to teach me how to conquer the morning section
