Hello. I just signed up for level 1 in December and wanted to say hi. I also had a quick question. I am going to order the CFA books to study. Is there any benefits between ordering them brand new from the site vs ordering them off of ebay?

I'm wondering if I would miss out on any freebees like online exams etc. by ordering a used set. Thanks in advance.

I've searched on ebay, and it looks like a lot of people are selling the 2007 books. I'm guessing a lot more will be selling after the exam in June as well. I was just wondering if their are any downfalls to purchasing on ebay vs brand new.

No, there is nothing more to the CFA books than the books themselves

I heard that if you buy new you get a candidate number that ends in an odd number. This indicates that you purchased the curriculum and you qualify for cool CFAI giveaways like a 5 minute "head-start" or a bonus code of ethics rub on tatoo.

My wife told me this morning that I have been acting a little testy lately, (as in irritable or touchy). I told her that "testy" is exactly the correct word to describe me right now.

My advice to the new forum members and excited Dec 07 Level I candidates: It is a fun 6 months and you are going to learn a lot... But for now, don't post questions like 'what study package should I buy?' or 'what book to start with?' or 'how many weeks should I spend memorizing GIPS?' not when 6-2-07 is days away. Unless of course you are ok with a few smart-alleck comments from all the stressed out, over worked, annoyed June 07 candidates...

amen to that. 2 weeks left. sometimes i feel like i've been studying forever. other times i say to myself oh my god, how can it only be 2 weeks away... it came so fast!

next 2 weeks are going to be stressful trying to make sure all of the info is in there. are people just taking practice tests now or are you reviewing certain areas to keep them fresh? i plan to take a hard review of ethics/GIPS this weekend to just lock all of that stuff down, even though I've been scoring pretty well on ethics recently.

i have 2 of the book 7 tests left- plan to do 1 this weekend and 1 next weekend. After that, I think for me it'll just be review of my weakest spots with a re-read and re-do of problems that have been a problem.

i use mechanical pencils- the cheap ones you get in a 10 pack at CVS... they work fine for me.

Uhhh, 16 days left. I want to hurry up and get this over with. The last 2 weeks will be reviewing the sketchy areas and doing all of the practice questions that I can cram in; a couple of exams this weekend, a couple next weekend, and a couple in-between. Heavy on the ethics the last week so it's fresh is the advice that I've received.

Ethics is crucial. Just a little bit of extra time in that area gives you a good score which is very helpful as it's a nice buffer to have with Quant, FSA and Valuation being able to knock the score down.

I suggest you go here if you just signed up for Level 1 in December.

The Cat Fanciers' Association?

you will have to take the pencils out of the packaging before they will let you in. they made me take my brand new eraser out of is packaging... i hope the proctor felt as ridiculous for making me take it of the packaging as i did holding up the line to get in while i ripped it out.
i'm going to hit macro econ like no other. and i need to review altern assets too. i sort of skimmed that over quickly and its showing on my scores. i'm also doing 120 questions every other day during the week and 1 full length practice exam on the weekends. i was feeling confident last week, but now i'm not so sure. the pressure is on.
