I just took the Dec Lev I and would like to start studying for the Jun 12 Lev II. I have already invested in the Schweser study notes and think I will enroll in a review class here in NYC.
My question is how many folks out there are attempting the same thing. To those who have attempted and passed (or failed), I would be curious to know how you handled back to back CFA exams. If you’ve tried this before and failed, what do you think led to a disappointing result?
My goal (albeit a very ambitious one!) is to complete the CFA Lev III by June 2013
.

I am in the exact same boat. I downloaded thefree PDF version of the first 4 readings on the CFA website..but I am not going to pay for Schweser till I am 100% I passed Level 1. I feel like you have to start studying for level II now tho..I am preparing for the best, if I pass, I have to already be into Level II. I read a lot, and it seems for Level II you NEED to read all the curriculum, which makes it a lot more time consuming. Thoughts to anyone who has taken the Dec level 1, passed and then took the June Level II

I’m in the same boat. I felt pretty confident leaving the level 1 exam, but nothing is 100%. I don’t want to have to wait an extra year to take level 2, especially after being told by other people that it’s good to keep going after passing the first level, since you’ll have retained more.

Gpessah, I was hoping to take the same approach that you are currently using, but I’m having some trouble finding the readings on the CFA website. Any chance you could post a link to where it is or point me in the right direction? Thanks for the help.

Right now instead of studying, another thing I’m going to be doing is reading some finance-related books (not textbooks, but recent books about the industry). I figure that though this may not directly help CFA, it will help overall and maybe I will be albe to relate more to the information being presented by the CFA readings.

I have my fingers crossed over the Level 1 result. However, if I manage to pass, I would want to take a shot at Level 2 in June 2012. Since this time of the year is relatively less hectic at work, I might be able to sneak in some study for Level 2.
So, for those studying / who’ve already studied, which is the easiest SS in the Level 2 course that I can start off with & finish in 2-3 weeks? I have the 2011 Schweser notes from a colleague.

Do level II straight away! I had a year break between Level I and Level II. Not only is the material not as familiar as it used to be, but I’m still stuck studying Level II while my mate, who did level II last year, is now doing Level III, after passing Level II with flying colours (with only about five months study and a full time financial planners practice to run).

If you left the level I exam room feeling relatively confident, you’ll likely pass the exam. It’s a great idea to start studying for level II now, since there will be a lot to cover.
There are ways you can start studying for level 2 without registering for the the exam until you know the December results, which will be just a few weeks away:
- Download and review the LOS for level II.
- Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct in Level II is the same as level I. Exclude the GIPS stuff.
- Start reading the Reseach Objectivity Standards and Soft Dollar Standards, which can be downloaded for free on the CFA institute website.
- Start studying the Schweser Notes right away. There is a refresher that will be helpful. For example, you’ll need to master the Financial Statement Analysis concepts such as accounting for leases, long-lived assets, inventory valuation, U.S. GAAP and IFRS treatment of cash flows, and financial performance ratios. It’s also a good idea to review the hypothesis testing.
That should be enough to get going.
Happy new year!

^ I think this is true for the most part. I knew I nailed L1 and sure enough it was true.
