Well I reg with aimr in March, hoping to get a head start for the dec exams, but have hardly started reading.(That Bombed!)

Based on the exam (L1) on sat. How much time would you'll suggest spending every week for the Dec L1exams.

Thanks

Depends on your background. Don't start studying too early. 10 solid hours a week studying should be good, but that does not mean in front of the tv. Leave 1 month for mocks

My advice for u.

(as I suppose I will take lvl 1 again in december).

Dont bother with the textbooks, dont learn anything in fact. Just do as many mock exams and practice questions as you can. This test does not test real knowledge, only how much you have memorized.

I would advise you to spent 3 months with the PassPro testbank and mock exams, thats what I plan to do if I have to retake lvl 1 , and 2 and 3. No more reading for me. This is pure bull.

and besides, dedicating 300 hrs per level is a waste of time since the best way to pass this shite is to memorize questions.

300 hrs = 300 missed out working hours, that is 10 working weeks, 2 monthy salarys.

2 monthly salarys means a huge vacacation around the world.

IS IT WORTH IT

Dbc & The Candidate thanks for your inputs.

The candidate, thats an interesting alternative perspective on the exam. Ya, if you think bout all the time put in....you bet all of us could have one hell of a ball!

It sucks! why do we do this to ourselves???

I would argue that memorizing questions is not the way to go. I took and thoroughly reviewed 9 full length practice tests, and there was a bunch of stuff on the real test that I had never seen.

I do think it is critical to take as many practice tests as you can, but unless you know the material, you'll be screwed.

i'd suggest reading the primary texts recommended by aimr. i think thats the way to go. if i could do this again, i would take the time to read them.

I had to read fabozzi and other asset valuation texts to study for my uni. exams, this gave me some sort of a background for cfa stuff.
if you have the time and the inclination..do it. :)

I still say read the Schwesser texts, I used that and the practice exams and only 1 question was not covered by the notes and I should have picked it up. The key no matter what you decide is one month before the exam to go through the AIMR LOS and each one that you don't know 100% make a notecard for. By the last week you should be down to a few notecards. Practice exams in actual practice situations are good too. The two days before the exam read the ethics and GIPS stuff and review the areas you are missing

Hi spvr,

I am also taking my Level 1 this Decemeber. My strategies are that I am studying each LOS and making a summary note of it and working out all the end of chapter questions in the Schweser notes. While working out questions I star the questions that have frequently occured and review them again later.

Then I make flash cards for all the key concepts and major formulas.

I am planning to allow two months for practicing questions from Schweser Pro and will be taking some mocks during last 15 days for the exam.

You can do all these only when you start early. So my suggestion is to start now.

Good Luck !

We never plan to fail, but only fail to plan !

Read a post authored by RobRob titled "How to Pass Level I" There is alos another very good post by Pavel. I think it called "Advice to LI'ers". Just use the search function and search for the authors name.

OOOOh friends, why are you bothering about passing the exam!! we should be first bother about understanding the materials and learn as much as we can from topics suggested by CFA Institute. Then, the next step to concentrate in passing the exam, and forsure you will pass if you was able to understand the topics.

So my recomendation to every candidate to read and learn, then pass the exam. Dont take passing the exam as FIRST and PRIMARY objective.

Yeah that's true..

But as the months pass by soon PASSING the exam becomes the FIRST and PRIMARY objective.

Just have to find a productive, timebased practical way to study for the exam.
