Leave early for your exam!!!!!!! For L1 and L2, I left home at 7.00 to arrive at exam center 7.30. L3 was right next to where I work EVERY DAY, so I figured no problem, I’ll leave at 7.30 (normal workday departure), and get there by 8 (normal workday arrival), and everything will be great. Until…
Left at 7:35, got coffee, got on the highway, and there was a MAJOR accident causing at least a two mile back up. There’s no way to get off the freeway at this point, so I’m cursing and swearing. By dumb luck I got in the far right lane, which started moving. I pulled off the expressway to a HUGE line of cars waiting to get into the testing center. It was now 8 am, and there was no way in hell those people were getting in the building by 8.30 doors shut. Apparently someone forgot to have enough parking attendants at the convention center or didn’t hire the usual police traffic direction. It was 2-3 lines of very nice cars outside Boston convention center.
I pulled around the jam, found a metered spot, and left my car there. Even if I got 300 in tickets and towed, I at least made the test on time.
When I was walking in, I looked out the window to see a LOOONG line of cars, all waiting to get into the parking lot. When the test started, it looked like 30-40% of the seats were empty.
Friends, don’t let this happen to you. If you leave early, the worst you’ll be is bored or nervous. If something unexpected happens, there’s no turning back. You’ve lost a year of your life. I’m hoping to have skated by, but just wanted to share.

Do you mean that many people were late because they were stuck in traffic?

Same boat here, drive downtown nearly everyday for work but was not prepared for much traffic on a Saturday morning. I parked on D street right next to the Westin and made my way past the loading docks on the lower level. It actually turned out to be pretty convenient and I didn’t even get ticketed until after lunch.
I agree though, based on the number of cars lined up to park at 8:30 a LOT of people lost time on the front end in Boston

This makes my 1hr trip to Warwick, RI sound like a smart move. For some reason I just figured Boston would spring a surprise Traffic on a Saturday morning.

yes. people were late beause they were stuck in traffic. that is what I meant. thank you for the clarification.

@Boston George - D street ruled! I moved my car back to the big lot at lunch. Worst part of the story - my gf was riding with me on the way to her L1 exam. Rough morning.

A lot of folks stay at a nearby hotel the night before for this very reason.

I left my place at 7:15 for the 15 minute drive down to the convention center because the road I take has this habit of being closed on random weekend mornings for marathons, bike races, whatever. This happened the morning of the exam, but since I had built in the chance of that, a quick 5 min detour was no big deal. Was still relaxing and chatting with friends at the testing center a few minutes before 8.
I can’t imagine that story happening… sounds like a nightmare.

I was really nervous when I saw the accident on the Mass Pike eastbound….was kind of sweating it for a moment or two, but I was early enough to get around it and take the Pike all the way into the Seaport.
I always build in extra time for unexpected events, you would be surprised how often one is faced with circumstances for which he did not plan.
Which was longer, lines to get into the test center or lines at Whiskey Priest, ABG, etc. after the test on a monsoon day?
