Level 1: What materials are crucial for being best prepared for the big test.

Im taking the Level 1 for the first time this december, and I am pretty short on cash so i want to do some effective purchasing.

I really want to buy the most beneficial notes/books etc. and avoid buying some useless stuff. Could you guys inform on what materials are must buys, and best prepare students for the level 1 exam.

If you have some prior knowledge regarding finance/accounting, then schweser stuff is enough. else, i would advise you to purchase the curriculum.
 
If $$$ is a factor, then buying Schweser Notes from ebay would have more bang for the buck than buying just the CFAI books. On the other had, I would expect the CFAI texts to be relatively inexpensive used. Beginning in 2008 they will be supplied to all registered candidates, so there will be no market for used texts.

Buying, and using, both is highly recommended.
 
If you have some background in this, buy Schweser new and you can always pick up the CFAI texts used on ebay for a bargain. If it's all new to you, I'd get the CFAI texts and go from there (and maybe get Schweser notes used, I felt they covered the material well for L1).
 
Dude everything is downloadable for free. Do your research. This would be a ethics violation however. You be the judge.

I used just Schweser and thought it was great- granted I have a background in accounting and finance. I started out using the CFAI books and only made it throught the first 2 books before ditching them. I found them to be boring, excessive, and unorganized. I can't recall anything from the June exam that wasn't covered in Schweser. The actual exam focused on the main concepts which is also the focus on Schweser. It is very easy to get bogged down by all the nit-picky details and definitions within the CFAI text which you will not actually be tested on.

Long story short: you will gain a much better understanding of the material with the CFAI books, however it will be much more time-consuming and excruciating in my opinion. Schweser focuses on what you need to know for the exam.
 
I have the Schweser notes for 2006, do you think this will be fine?

Should I pay the big bucks for the 2007 notes?

I have the 2006 CFAI curriculum books, do you think this will serve the purpose or should I upgrade to 2007? I already have prior finance background and the 2007 Schweser notes.
 
i think 06 and 07 notes are very similar, in 07 it actually cover less materials so
 
Well, I think the first thing you should get is the CFAI. if you have extra money get the other stuff.
 
I'd say that Schweser 2007 and CFAI notes for 2006 will be more than sufficient. Keep in mind that lots of candidates pass L1 with Schweser only.
