Hey guys. I'm planning on taking Level I this December and Level II (provided I pass) this coming June. I've been studying Level I with both the CFA materials and Schweser since the beginning of August on average about 2-3 hours per day during the week and about 5 hours per day on the weekends.

I have a BA in Econ from a top undergrad and I've been working as an Investment Analyst for an endowment since graduation (1.5 years). I'm confident in my ablities and am certainly willing to put in the study time. I'm just a little curious as to whether or not I've bitten off more than I can chew this time.

What are the odds of passing Level I in Dec and Level II in June for someone with good, albeit very limited, professional experience?

If you went to a top school, are in the industry and are putting in the time (sounds like you're doing more than enough here), you haven't bitten off too much. Just depends on whether you're willing to put in the time to do level II without a huge break from level I. Many people do what you're attempting to do.

And lots of people pass both 2/2. The pass rates are skewed by those who attempt each level multiple times (probably aren't smart enough) and those whose studies are interrupted by life and work.

Sounds doable. I did the December LI / June LII combo, as have many others here. It was a bit tough mentally to jump right back into studying soon after getting the LI results, but it sounds like you are putting in plenty of time, so if you stick with it I don't think you'll have a problem. Good luck.

I'm also alum of the Dec L1/Jun L2 track and L2 was a nasty miserable experience. I was so burned out of studying after the L2. If I hadn't passed L2 in June I'm not sure I would have been able to get myself up to go through that again.

I don't really get the question. It entails passing the LI in Dec and the LII in June. Common advice is to spend 4-5 months preparing for each test if you plan on studying at a reasonable pace. It can def be done in less if you put in more hours / week.

It depends on your level of commitment. Go schweser all the way though, screw the assigned readings. If you paid for the books only use them to answer the assigned questions. After passing Level 1 in Dec, I nailed 2 in June without much problem. It drains the hell out of you though.

The bad part is that CFAI doesn't release results until about the 3rd week of January. Then if you pass you have to order all your material. I started studying in February, didn't study a couple of weeks in March to move and didnt study for about 3 weeks in Apr/May while my wife had a baby. So I studied for about 3 months 2hrs a day during the week and 8hrs a day on the weekends.

The key for me for Level 2 w/ the quick turn around was forming study group and we met every Saturday for at least 4-5 hrs and did problem after problem together.
