Local Society Review

Actually I did a search and someone said you don’t need to?
Nevermind… I’ll just expense it.

I think you have to join a local society to get your charter but after that you just need to renew the CFAI membership. I know people who are CFA’s who do not belong to any local society.

Hope that’s true - I don’t want to be a member of any local society. The events are pretty much useless and the good ones have fees!

i’m in the same boat…
i might be able to convince my boss to at least cover my dues though.
But starting to think i have to give up some other certifications. Almost all of them require 40 hours CPE a year. Try having 4 designations and you’re having to cover 160hours CPE a year! Ridiculous!!!!
now figure this out
$275 p.a. membership fee for CFAI
100,000 charterholders
$27.5m just in fees
plus 100,000 test takers x $700 = another $70m
plus ppl registered who don’t show up for test (???) xx m
= lots of muneee

Kilgore, my application to seattle society has been sitting there for 22 days now… i guess it should go the auto approve route.
on a separate note, have you been attending any society events lately?

If it’s been sitting for a while I would just pick up the phone and speak to someone or show up in person. My personal experience has been that my local society rarely responds to e-mail inquiries. I don’t blame them though, their inbox gets flooded just like everyone else’s.

Yea you only need to sign up for the society the first year but my firm pays for it anyway so might as well keep it.

So basically $475 down the drain every year, recurring for life!
WTF, I dont know how useful these local societies turn out to be. $475 is pretty high. CFA is quite expensive. Well, v’ll have to pay the amount atleast for the first year to see the benefits.
L3 crucifier will reply you today.

Just to share my experience here. CFAI notified me yesterday that my application to CAFI and Boston based society BSAS were approved. The review process took about 4 weeks, and it costs $425 ( $275 for CFAI and $150 to BSAS). A CFAI representative told me that new charters will be awarded after 09/01/2012. Almost there……
