Hi, guys,
just passed CFA Level III and my experience has been already approved and now I am waiting for society approval. When I filled membership application I was suggested by local society which is closest to my country (since my country does not have local society). Therefore, do I understand correctly what I cannot fill application without choosing at least one society? And it is MUST to be a member of that society and wait for its approval? Or I can reject that society application since it is completely not relevant to me as I will not participate in events of this society.

LTD,
You just pick a local society when you apply for the membership so that the local society reviews your work experience. Once the local society and CFAI approve your application, an email will be sent to you with a link to activate your membership.
(sometimes, you need to email them to remind that you wait for their review and approval process to expedite your process)
When you activate your membership, you may UNCHECK the local membership because it is optional. CFAI membership only is mandatory to earn CFA charter. Then, only you need to pay $275 without local society membership fee.
Below is the reply from CFAI:
Here is an official reply from CFAI:
Hello XXXX,

Being approved as a regular member of a society is required under the CFA Institute membership application process. However, activating the society membership is voluntary and not mandatory to earn the charter.

Best regards,

And is it normal that local society review information shows
Submitted Work Experience Months as 0 (while CFA Institute, for example 100)?

Yes, that is normal - as strange as it may look.
