Lying on resume to get dream job

I did meet an individual who said he would lie, cheat, and steal to get into HBS. We actually worked for the same company at the time. Then, he got into HBS and graduated last year.
He has a sick job now and I will never forget when he said that statement to me before getting into the school.

So the moral of the story is: LIE?
 
I wouldn’t, but I have to admit it’s tempting to sometimes when I’ve seen some people get ahead that way. However, these people are more able to pull it off, either because they’re cut from a different moral fiber or they’re just better at hiding things. I’m not a good liar and also I prefer to be able to sleep well at night. Plus, I’m comfortable enough with myself and where my career seems to be heading that I don’t feel like I need to lie. Of course, do I wish I had “more”?
For whatever that’s worth, sure…but I think I’ve always felt that way and will always continue to, and at some point you just have to be happy with what you have and make the most of things. Throwing your principles out the window seems to be a slippery slope (e.g. insider trading); I’m sure some people get away with it, but others don’t. I sleep better in my own bed than in some jail cell next to a couple of a$$ rapists.

Bernie Maddoff
 
If no one has been in the grey area on this, well they are a liar
Like recalculating GPA based on errrm… assumptions or over weighting some experience, no big deal.
Outright fabrication? nope, haven’t done that, never will. have heard some crazy stories though where they usually get away with it though : (
 
It’s worth it for someone that has nothing to lose. How else would you compete against people like Numi (Harvard MBA, experience in SS ER, PE, HF)?
 
Putting it in writing is a pretty bad idea. Those documents can come back to haunt you later.
I think you can get away with verbal lies just fine. I know people that make a living just spouting BS all the time. I find it reprehensible, but they have much nicer cars than I do.
 
A resume can be worded to make a false impression. No need to lie.
 
If you get caught your donezo for life. Also your usually fired on the spot.

“donezo for life?” how so? If you do get fired, you can always just not put that job on your resume and return your resume to normal.
 
taking the decision to gain an advantage by being a sleazebag makes you well… a sleazebag, and this is primarily true for people who are already relatively well off and have god knows how many toilet-paper proof (from oxford, harvard and from where not…) to show for it.
