Mechanical… really a no-brainer… who wants to get up and look for a pencil sharpener in the middle of an exam if your point breaks… heck, they may not even have one at the exam site. Why risk it?
I’m taking 5 mechanical… should do it
CFAI instruction says “All candidates must bring sharpened number two or HB pencils”.
I am not taking any chances. I am taking 4 regular number two pencils for AM and fresh set of 4 for the PM.
What type of pencil can I use during the exam?
CFA Institute will permit candidates to use regular or mechanical pencils provided that they use Number 2 or HB lead. In the event that you are unable to locate a Number 2 or HB pencil, any pencil with soft lead/graphite will suffice.
i used a simple mechanical pencil.. donno much on other details
proctors dont have so much time to check 1.0 or 2.0 mm pencils for hundreds of candidates and multiple pencils with each candidate… i guess, any pencil is ok unless it looks like a gadget
From CFAI FAQ:
